Check Out Samantha Barker and Amber Haberman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Barker and Amber Haberman.

Samantha and Amber, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our story starts with us meeting as co-workers. We became fast friends and overtime discovered that not only do we work great together but we also have a similar vision for our life and career.

Being a service provider, specifically a waxing specialist, is a very physical job and we both were keenly aware that there is a time clock on how long our bodies would be able to sustain us in this field.

Neighborhood Wax was created because we want to share our unique take on what it means to be a waxing specialist but it is also the next step in both of us being able to stay working in the beauty industry. We have worked so hard and devoted so much time and energy into becoming great at what we do. When the time comes to stop waxing, we still want to stay in this industry, which we truly love and have great excitement for.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to get here has been interesting for sure but now that we are here it has been pretty smooth.

We had quite the time getting our building built. The City of Denver permitting process is tedious and frankly very inefficient and slow. What was supposed to be an 11 week permitting process, ended being 18 months with another 3-4 months of actual construction, followed by inspections. It was slow going and frustrating to say the least and we had so many doubts along the way. We are so glad we stuck it out because being in Platt Park, on South Pearl Street, is a dream come true and 100% worth the wait.

The extra time it took to complete the space allowed for us to be as prepared as possible. We had a lot of extra time to think about all the pieces, big and small that go into opening a small business. Whether we wanted it or not, we had the time to be very intentional about everything from the interior design of our space, to the whole guest experience, to what products we wanted to use, the website, etc.

Once we moved in there were very few surprises because we had 18 extra months to plan! 🙂

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Neighborhood wax is made up of two experience and licensed estheticians, Amber Haberman and myself, Samantha Barker. We co-founded, co-own and operate the studio together. We are full service body waxing and brow boutique specializing in soft wax. We are known for our waxing expertise and experience, our cute as hell studio as well as our extra gentle waxing technique. There is no such thing as a pain-free wax but Neighborhood Wax comes pretty close. Our attention to detail and customer service set us apart from corporate chains.

The customer experience at Neighborhood Wax is very elevated while also remaining authentic and approachable. We care deeply about our clients and have had relationships with them going back 9 years.

What makes you happy?
What makes us happy is catching up with our clients and hearing them say “I am so excited to tell you……..”

We also truly love working with first time waxers. It can be intimidating and scary to get waxed for the first time. Clients don’t know what to expect, they know it’s going to hurt a bit and it’s a bit of a vulnerable spot to be in. We do not take that lightly and we thrive on making the first experience a great one.

On a personal level, the things that make us happy include but are not limited to reading on our kindles (we take them EVERYWHERE), Diet Coke, traveling, being at home with our animals, cooking, hiking and spending time with our family and friends.

Pricing:

  • New Clients receive 50% off their first wax
  • $65 for a Brazilian – our most popular service
  • $25 for eyebrows
  • $20 for brow tinting
  • $25 for underarm waxing
