Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Jordan
Hi Sandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Sandra Jordan, I was born in Trinidad and Tobago which is about 3,300 miles from Colorado. Trinidad and Tobago is a twin island country located off the coast of Venezuela near South America. I did not come to America to pursue any specific dream; I came to America to help my aunt based on a promise she made to my mom and dad. That promise was never kept, instead I became the house nanny at the age of 20. My aunt was a married, pregnant, nurse who was furthering her education and needed help because her husband had a triple bypass surgery. So, an arrangement was made between her and my parents, I did not have any input in the decision. Arriving in America was different. I was not prepared for it, plus I was all alone. I went from a house full of sisters and surrounded by friends to a house of strangers. My first couple of months with my aunt was great but slowly she became difficult and mean to live with. Many promises that were made became empty promises and there was no one to assist me. You may ask “why didn’t I return home”? Well, that is because my home wasn’t a safe place. I had an alcoholic father who was abusive and there was not many options for safe places to go. My mom would often be asked “where are you going to go with 6 children”, so she stayed with my dad, but she wanted better for me. My earlier years in America resulted in me working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), which helped me financially. I became pregnant at the age of 21 and moved into the home of one of my mother’s friend and struggled over the years. The first 15 years of my life here in the USA was very difficult but I pushed through and was determined to succeed in life. My success is not about material possessions, my success is my relationship with my Lord and Savior. I am blessed to have a blended family of 5 children, a husband of 31 years, many grandchildren, my own business and a beautiful home. I am an overcomer of an abusive home, a broken mentality and being homeless; however, I am also an overcomer who has a sound mind and I thank the Lord for that.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
