Check Out Sara Gonzalez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Gonzalez.

Sara Gonzalez

Hi Sara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Though I graduated with a bachelor’s in Design and a master’s in Branding, it was very difficult for me to find a job at home in Tenerife, so I moved to Madrid in search of new opportunities. There I found a precarious job where I worked long hours—and was paid peanuts. “Normal for a junior”, I thought. So, I tried for better opportunities but was often rejected because I didn’t speak English.

At that moment I understood the importance of the English language in the business world, and that realization led me to pack up and head to London for a fresh start. The first few months were very hard. I freelanced at night and worked for a charity during the day, knocking on doors to promote memberships—so I could practice my English. It was tough, but I have fond memories of the families I met, many of whom invited me over for biscuits or soda while sharing some gossip!

Thankfully, a few months later (when I was finally confident with the language) I got my first job as a designer in the UK. The company’s Head of Brand—a creative Italian genius—empathized with me and saw the immense desire I had for learning. He gave me the opportunity and inspiration that led me to this moment, where, after working for several companies over 7 years, I decided to establish my own design studio focused on brand development: Pandora Studio.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a bed of roses, but these experiences make you grow as a designer—and learning to manage them is a valued quality in the industry, whether you work for others or for yourself. I’m talking about bosses who don’t know how to lead. Impostor syndrome makes you doubt your value. The pressure for constant productivity.

Comparing yourself to the apparent successes of others. The rejection at interviews. The needs of complex clients… It’s a lot to process. That’s why I think it’s vital to build a circle of colleagues you trust, make you smile, and inspire you to have a great time together. You must enjoy the process and find a way to manage the things you can’t control as best you can!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a graphic designer specializing in conceptualization and brand development, and I am passionate about helping companies and entrepreneurs across a range of sectors tell their stories through design. I love the psychology of brands and the power they can have on society. Brands add value, provide experiences, and transmit ideas. Brands can share our powerful stories, with the power to raise awareness and change lives.

Finally, brands make us fall in love because beyond transmitting a message, they transmit a feeling that brings us closer to our audience—ultimately contributing to a successful business. That is why I believe in the importance of using this powerful tool for something good, and I love collaborating with people and companies who want to have a positive impact on society.
