Savanna Klear

Hi Savanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hi! My name is Savanna Klear and I am the human behind Junegrass Florals LLC! I started my creative journey in art and photography, building artworks filled with natural elements and odes to mother nature. Things naturally progressed into designing flowers when I was in my last year of college when I took an internship at a local flower shop.

This unlocked a new creative avenue for me and I knew there was no turning back from flowers. I worked in multiple floral shops after I graduated and after 4 years working under others and perfecting my craft within the floral design world, I created Junegrass, a company of my own.

Junegrass is a multifaceted brand aiming to provide creative services in a more efficient and thoughtful way. Creating a creative space for all things floral design and photography. My floral design style is influenced heavily by sculptures, fine art, and the natural world around us. Junegrass currently offers artful flowers for Weddings & Elopements, Floral Styling for artists and photographers as well as Creative Photography Sessions.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey to start my own business has not always been a smooth ride. I faced a lot of unsureness in the beginning. I think society places such a big pressure on us to not give up a stable job or that we cannot make a living from owning our own business.

I was super nervous knowing I was going against the grain and starting to do my own thing but I would rather try and fail than be stuck in a stable place forever wondering if I should have made the leap to do my own thing. Starting a company of my own has been stressful at times but it also feels so much more rewarding than I could have ever imagined.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Artist, Florist, Photographer – I live for creating beauty in all aspects of my life. I am deeply inspired by art and the natural world around me and I strive to make unique yet sustainable floral arrangements for weddings and fine art photography.

My work is an attempt to bridge the gap between the floral world and the art world. I want to create floral arrangements that feel like fine art, that are sculptural, and make you rethink how we view the world of floral design. Flowers have become my artistic medium in a lot of ways and I use photography as a way to showcase my floral designs.

I think I have a unique way of doing things as a florist because I take a lot of my inspiration from art. My designs are filled with artful shapes yet still come off as something from nature. Whimsical and airy, twiggy and unkempt.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
I think small business owners are the ultimate risk-takers. We are challenging society’s pressures to be held into a “9-5”. I started my business because I needed to change how I was creating (within art and floral design), I felt incredibly stuck in traditional floral designer roles. I took a risk by leaving a stable job and I finally started to lean into my creative endeavors as a career.

I think it is so important to take these risks as an artist, I thrive under my own rules and I like being able to do and create what I want to put out into the world. I am always telling myself that I would much rather try and fail than wonder if I could have done it. Looking back on my life I do not want to regret not making a leap into doing something I am passionate about.
