Check Out Seattle Kay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Seattle Kay

Hi Seattle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Seattle Dawn, and I am the singer/songwriter for our band; Seattle Kay. I have loved music for as long as I can remember. Fondest, oldest memories reaching back to my grandpa and I. Him singing with me as a baby, playing guitar while I sat in his lap. As soon as I could speak, i was following his lead. Performing every chance I could get, and writing songs about everything around me.
My love for music only grew as I did. My home life never felt as comfortable as being on stage. In elementary school I would meet my friends out by the bleachers. Every recess we would rehearse “Hannah Montana” songs like we were taking them to the Grammys. In middle school I was in every play possible; talent shows, choir, orchestra, anything music. High school I would be there from the time school opened to the time school closed, involving myself in as many extra curricular art activities as I possibly could. You would find me in every single play/musical, all state choir, oral interp and anything else i thought would help me pursue entertainment for the future. I even did a Solo on the stage of Disney World my sophomore year of high school!
After high school I moved out to Orlando and started working at Universal Studios. I spent 3 1/2 years there, working at the men in black ride, doing retail and auditioning as much as I could. While I was auditioning, I also put a lot of time into social media, to grow my music’s audience as much as possible. I was uploading covers and vlogs to youtube weekly, or any chance I would get. Unfortunately, covid-19 came, and all of my jobs were shut down, along with auditions coming to a stop. I was stuck at home for 3 months, nothing to do but focus on my music career. I made a challenge to myself to write a song every single day and ended up putting together what would be my very first album. I started not only posting to youtube, but also to tik tok daily. With those goofy videos and covers, I somehow acquired an audience of 10k people in just a year.
Along with helping me grow an audience, my videos helped me network more than ever before. At covid’s end I was contacted by a music producer in Colorado Springs, Colorado. My best friend and I made a road trip to check the studio out, then soon after that, I moved out to start recording my first album! I recorded my first song “GoodPeople” at North Park Studios, and didn’t expect the feedback it received initially. Overnight, the song received around 4000 streams across all platforms. The homemade music video we made had around 2000 views in a week! It was support that I’m still stunned by and so grateful for to this day.
After Good People came out, I made sure my album was ready and started pushing to get it done. North Park wasn’t quite the sound I was looking for, so I started exploring other options. Dabbling with a few beginner producers, then finally deciding the sound I was wanting, came from a full band. In need of a band, I started scouting off local. I reached out to friends that played, joined facebook groups to find other artists, all in hope to find fits to the sound I needed.
I first found Brandon Roach to start playing guitar with me. I found him as one of his videos crossed my social media feed. I loved the unique sound he possessed; Because of this, he was the first person I reached out to. He makes Techno/Indie/Electronic music that I’ve never heard anywhere else. We sat and started writing the instrumentals to my lyrics while I kept looking for parts in our band. Soon after, I found Colin Brown. He was on a mutual Colorado spring musician page I joined on facebook. He sent me a couple videos of his drumming and I was instantly impressed. This man is the best drummer I have ever encountered hands down. Even tho i may be a little biased because he’s our drummer, that was my first impression and many other musicians first impression as well.
Colin, Roach and I started playing weekly in my boyfriend Micaiah’s Garage. We spent a couple of months writing and got most of our songs finished then decided we needed a bass on our songs. I put another post on facebook and looked around for while until we found Marco Ramirez, the absolute perfect fit for our bass. He came to one practice and the whole group was thrilled. He made our songs sound full and added an energy to the group that we were missing.
We finished writing the album then got to the studio! We found a great opportunity to work with a upcoming producer Sam Mcafee as his first big project. We put together each songs with every detail and idea we all had in mind. After a couple sessions Roach had a opportunity to go out of the country and other opportunities with his duo “Slim Organics” so he unfortunately stepped away. Though he is missed; with each door that closes another opens and it gave us the opportunity to grow our sound even more! Colin and Marco introduced Sean Perman to the group then every thing came together! Sean added a sound to our group that we needed and tied us all together. He gave “Runaway” the upbeat and catchy melody that keeps the lyrics tied to the band perfectly. He put the perfect spin on “Love” with his knowledge and folk background.
With the album finished and out; we are planning to start touring the US with our songs/shows! We found a perfect addition as another guitarist to play with us going forward, Her name is Sophia Stout (Cera). She adds layers to our performances that make us stand out. Along with that she’s a great songwriter so shell be helping me with song lyrics in the future! I couldn’t as for a better group to be along side me, doing what we all love. We’re all so excited to be where we are at and finally have our music in your hands! With less than a couple months we’ve grown so much and we are so excited to see where our music will take us now!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to get where our band/I am at today has not always been easy but has definitely been worth it. We found that many people in this industry are more involved for the financial aspects than the art itself. This made it difficult to find the right people to work with at first; causing a delay in our music getting released for a couple years. A big lesson I have learned personally in this industry is patience. Though music take’s time and its hard to get started; it is always worth the outcome. In times where we have struggled, I tried to remind myself that are all a kind and highly talented group of individuals working towards the same goal. With time, i see nothing except a positive outcome to come from all of our hard work or struggles.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

Colin Brown is our drummer; He has been playing professionally for several years across the US previously in a indie rock band! Marco Ramirez Is our Bass Player; He came all the way out from San Diego! He also has experience with many other bands and has studied many avenues of music in his life. Which makes it easy for us to include different genres in our music. Sean Perman is our Guitarist; He plays in around 6 different bands in Denver while also studying at CU! He’s a busy bee, but we are so grateful for the unique sounds he brings to our music. Soph Cera is our other Guitarist; She recently graduated and is also part of her own duo “Soph and Austin” that makes Indie-pop music!
Our band just released our first album “Teens2Twenties” on August 6th of 2024! Along with our album we released a music video for our songs “RunAway” and “MindGames” on Youtube now. We’ve had so much support so far and we are so grateful for every single stream.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
It always means the world to us when people simply just share our music and tell friends/family about us. We would love to meet as many people as possible at our future shows so spreading the word and showing up really helps us a lot!
