Check Out Shannon Carriere’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Carriere

Hi Shannon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I worked my way through corporate life from the Midwest to the southwest to the mountains of Colorado, and after experiencing a sense of never quite fitting in with corporate life, I decided to go full out on my own and run my own HR company

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled longer than I like to say in realizing that it wasn’t that I didn’t belong within corporate, it’s that I saw more potential in the people, processes, and results than the obvious complacency of the organization was allowing. Bureaucracy gets in the way of great people making great impact and I finally realized that the best way to make impact was coming from outside of the organization instead of within.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I run a business called CarriereHR that specializes in HR project management and fractional HR engagements.
I’m known for my common sense HR approach and my ability to see deeply into what’s going on, people’s motivations, and how we find a way out of a problem. I am most proud of the relief people get after meeting me for the first time. That I’m not what they thought HR would be. Challenging assumptions and perceptions that have been shaped by uncomfortable situations certainly feels good, but more importantly, it breaks through a barrier that allows us to actually get results, instead of allowing ancient judgments to hold us back.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I have mentors in all areas of starting up a business as a solo and I have ready-made mentors for when growth occurs. I’ve been fortunate enough to get involved with a few really smart networking groups. The kind that are different than what you think of as traditional networking. Through those I have made trustworthy contacts that I can rely on for everything from branding to administrative support and from financial guidance to entrepreneur psychology. My advice is to network without ego and find the people that complement your opportunities with their strengths. Don’t go forward until those people are by your side.
