Check Out Shelby Wall’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Wall.

Hi Shelby, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up as a young girl with severe dyslexia, who was painfully shy and struggled in school, to a now 29-year-old business owner…never in a million years would I have envisioned my life where it is today. When ShelbyRae Photographs was born, I was at a low point in my life. I was struggling to find direction and purpose when I was starting college. I had suffered from a lot of self-doubt for so many years, because of dyslexia. My parents were always there for support and encouragement and when I was 19, they bought me my first camera. When I started taking photographs, I realized that I had a talent for it and it was something I was passionate about. Growing up we’re told if you can find a job that you’re passionate about, you’ll never work a day in your life, which really resonates with me.

After college, I decided to take a leap of faith and move from my small town in Wisconsin to the big city of Atlanta, Georgia, with my Goldendoodle, Lola. I knew I needed to make the change in order to pursue my dreams. It truly is remarkable what we can push ourselves to do with confidence, along with love and support from friends & family.

I lived in Atlanta for six years where I was extremely fortunate to grow my business to a level, I never thought possible. Working with brands like Home Depot, Toyota, Hoover, and Country Living were experiences that I am forever grateful for. I am also so thankful for all of my wonderful clients who have supported my business from day one.

In 2020 I moved my company to Denver, CO to be with my husband and Lola. I am super excited about this new chapter in my life, as I am now focusing more on brand photography and helping companies promote their businesses through social media.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say it was more of a windy road than a smooth road. Trying to navigate how to run a business in my early 20’s was super challenging and still can be today!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Outside of lifestyle & wedding photography, I am now focusing more on brand photography and helping companies create content for social media platforms.

I am most proud of never giving up on myself as an entrepreneur with dyslexia.

I have always been told I capture really authentic moments in people’s lives when taking pictures. I am a very strong believer in customer service and I am always trying to give people the best experience possible when working with me.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I always loved spending time over at my grandma and grandpa’s house. Their basement was filled with games and they were just always so involved in everything I did as a child. I remember I would always try to skip the school bus after school, just so I could go over and spend time with them because they would always be the ones to pick me up.
