Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone White.
Hi Simone, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Creating art has always been a part of my life, since I was a little girl all I wanted to do was create. Growing up I had many strong creative minds and role models to support my artistic growth. I was constantly encouraged to try new forms of creation and discover new techniques. After deciding I was going to pursue art what I found most important was to constantly put myself out into the world for every opportunity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve never felt more sure of my art, but it hasn’t always been that way. In my sophomore and junior year of high school during the search for what was next, I was convinced out of my path toward a career in art. I was told it was unrealistic and so I searched for another option. My senior year was during covid, which made learning very difficult.
I was so burnt out after graduation, however I was still enrolled in culinary school. A week before classes started I unenrolled as I knew I could not be a successful student. I wasn’t exactly sure of my next step but I knew that was not what I wanted. Two days after I got an email asking to submit some work to a show, and that reignited my passion for art.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I focus on landscape and nature-based painting. Growing up in Colorado it’s easy to take for granted the amazing scenery that surrounds us but for me, it’s made it easier for me to fully appreciate everything it has to offer. I love to paint from the way I feel not just from the way I see something. Part of what makes painting so special to me is I can capture every aspect of a moment. I can use colors, texture, and lines to portray how the air felt, the way it smelled, or how the sun felt against my skin.
My paintings are often inspired by a real moment in time but are often altered to capture my emotions rather than just the view. Working in watercolor can be very challenging for the pieces I try to capture but it’s such an amazing medium. I believe the ways I use watercolors are what set me apart from other artists.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned so much about actual painting techniques and processes, like paint materials, priming, brush materials, and the importance of paper. But I have to say the most important thing by far has been learning about the way we interact with art and the way it affects people. Most people know the beautiful thing about art is that it can mean something different to everyone but it affects more than that. We use art every day to enhance little things, life without it would be quite dull.
