Today we’d like to introduce you to Soul Stretch.
Hi Soul, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The real reason that I started making music was because I would listen to songs on the radio and feel like they should have done certain songs a different way, or said this rather than that. That inspired me to start writing songs of my own and do it my way, which I considered to be the best. That was during my junior year in high school which was roughly 10 years ago. Looking back, I thought I was really serious about wanting to make it into the music industry but I wasn’t. I casually made songs with a friend of mine here and there through college, but it wasn’t until late 2020 when I really committed myself to taking this career path serious. Roughly August is when I decided I would buckle down and make as many songs as I could as quickly as I could. I figured It would take roughly 6 months for me to put together 30 really solid songs that would be release-worthy, and I did. I spent that time mainly learning how to produce beats and reinventing my sound. By this point, I was more than comfortable in my ability to write and record music, now with the addition of controlling the production my ability to crank out music really skyrocketed. I’d work 9 am-7 pm, 5 days a week, and come home to spend 3 hours working on my music every night. The days I wasn’t on schedule Id create in shifts (3 hours, 2-hour break, and repeat). Just to keep it short, I completed these songs and then began learning how to mix and master them so they were ready for release. I challenged my to create an EP and release it in two weeks. It’s easy to make music and call it ‘partially finished’ but to complete it and put it out into the world was something I was still worried about. I did that in April of 2021. I released a few other singles in 2021, another EP at the top of 2022 and I’m prepping to release another single later this month. After that, the plan is just to keep the momentum going.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Of course not, but what would be the fun in that. I firmly believed I was going to make it before I graduated high school, that way I didn’t have to go to college. I still believe every song I make is going to be ‘the one’ that changes everything. The main thing I struggle with is social media. As a person, I’m really not that interested in being online. I’m pretty private, but as an artist, I understand that that potion of it is vital to gain visibility. That’s the battle I still face. I’m a lot more comfortable online now than I use to be but I’m still trying to work towards that attention that will change everything
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
If I had to give you my elevator pitch, I go my ‘Soul Stretch’ I’m a musician and producer from Denver, Co. Long term, I’d like to make music that people connect to and live their lives to. For a long time, I wanted to be the best ‘rapper’ ever, now, I really just want to have fun and make you your favorite songs
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think I believe in timing more than luck. If you work hard and your visible it’s only a matter of time before people start to see your value. I don’t expect to get ‘lucky’ and sign to a label, I think it’s only a matter of time before I put out a song in a moment where it’ll really connect with people and be sharable.
