Check Out Sunanda Dangol’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunanda Dangol.

Hi Sunanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in Nepal, I was exposed to the vast cultural diversity of my country, with over 123 ethnic groups and 129 languages represented. I was fascinated by the unique customs, languages, and heritage of each group, and it instilled in me a deep appreciation for culture and diversity.

During my high school years, FM radio became popular, and I became hooked on listening to it. I eventually decided to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Journalism and joined a media school. While studying, I had the opportunity to be part of a core team for a nationwide prime-time radio program for youth called “Chatting with my Best Friend.” This popular program was funded by UNICEF and provided an opportunity to travel to remote areas, interview people in challenging situations and share their experiences with others.

Through this program, we were able to address the problems and issues faced by young people while providing life skills and coping strategies. This experience opened my eyes to the power of media and its ability to influence people’s lives positively.

Upon completing my undergraduate studies, I co-founded an event management company with some friends. This was a novel and thrilling field in Nepal, and we were able to earn a prosperous income by organizing a variety of concerts and brand-promoting events.

After graduating, I applied for several scholarships to study abroad and was fortunate enough to receive a full scholarship to study Hotel Management in Austria. While there, I found myself more interested in attending concerts and events all over Europe than focusing on my studies, which had a negative impact on my grades. Nonetheless, this experience allowed me to discover my passion for event management and gave me a more expansive outlook on the industry.

However, life got in the way, started to have a family and for several years tried out different jobs to accommodate family life. Once kids started going to school I started taking freelancing event planning for several fundraising events that many non-profit organizations hosted. As I mingled more with the community, I observed the growing Nepalese community in Colorado, and I realized it was time to create an event that would bring all the Nepali communities together to showcase our rich cultural traditions to the public.

Thus, the Nepali Jatra was born. The Nepali Jatra not only promotes its own cultural events but also provides assistance to other communities in promoting and organizing their events to ensure a memorable experience. While we all strive to create exceptional events, the actual execution can present challenges. Nepali Jatra offers its expertise in delivering seamless events to ensure success.

Through the Nepali Jatra, people can learn about cultural heritage, appreciate diversity, develop creative skills, and contribute to the local economy. As someone who has personally experienced the power of cultural traditions and community building, I am passionate about providing a platform for people to connect and celebrate together.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel incredibly lucky that the stars aligned and the timing was just right. It was almost as if fate brought me to a group of amazing individuals like Sunil Pathak: Allstate agency, who were dedicated to promoting inclusion and diversity through a community collaboration event. The task at hand seemed daunting, but with the remarkable people involved, we were able to overcome any challenge with ease.

This experience has shown me firsthand the power of breaking down biases and working towards a common goal.

Although we faced initial resistance, we didn’t give up. Instead, we persevered with an unwavering spirit and an unyielding commitment to our cause. Ultimately, it was by finding the right team and partnering up that we were able to turn obstacles into opportunities and make our dream a reality.

I’ve come to appreciate the remarkable impact that collaboration and inclusivity can have on people from all walks of life. This experience has taught me the importance of staying true to your values, never giving up, and maintaining an unwavering commitment to your cause. Together, we can create a world that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusivity, and I am grateful to have been a part of this incredible journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an experienced event planner, my goal is to create an unforgettable event that meets your goals and exceeds your expectations. I have years of experience in the industry, and I take care of everything from determining the event concept to coordinating vendors and other service providers.

I provide regular updates throughout the planning process and welcome client feedback to ensure that the event reflects their unique style and preferences. With my strong project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to adapt to changing circumstances, I can deliver an event that will leave a lasting positive impression on attendees.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
It’s truly exciting to share that I’m currently involved in organizing the second edition of Nepali Jatra, which is scheduled to take place on July 30th at the Longmont Museum.

I’m eager to collaborate with local Nepali organizations like Non Residents Nepali Association ( NRNA Colorado), Sisters Group, Nepali Ghar, Rocky Mountain Friends of Nepal (RMFN) Colorado Newah Khala: Sherpa Nangpi Tsogpa Colorado, Tamu Pye Lhu, Magar Association of USA and International Nepali Literary Society (INLS) that have played a pivotal role in preserving and showcasing our cultural heritage to Nepali audiences and made them feel at home for over two decades in Colorado. Together, we can take this cultural celebration to the world stage and share our traditions and values with a global audience. I am confident that with our collective efforts, we will be able to showcase our culture in a way that everyone can enjoy and appreciate.

As we move forward with our preparations, I’m thrilled to see that our community of Nepali donors is growing stronger each day. Their unwavering support and commitment to this cause are truly inspiring, and I believe that with their help, we will be able to build a solid foundation for this event. I wanted to thank Sunil Pathak Agency: Allstate for thier collaboration second year in a row. It gives me excitement to start this journey on a positive note !
