Check Out Sydney Martin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Martin.

Hi Sydney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
If I think about the true beginning I’d say that everything is rooted in my type A personality. I have always had a deep interest in food, nutrition, and, of course, eating. I became a mother while I was still in grad school. Although I had always been a planner, I knew that I needed to tighten things up. My free time was suddenly non-existent and I was trying to navigate being a new parent and trying to finish my doctorate.

Fast forward to 2020, as a small business owner, our business had to shut down completely and I realized how many people were in the same boat. I knew I had a fine-tuned skill set that could have an extreme impact on families all over. I started sharing some of my techniques and weekly meal plans on BuzzFeed and the response has been amazing.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think the past few years have been a smooth road for anyone! There have certainly been struggles. The times of calculating each item as I put them in the grocery cart still feel fresh in my mind. However, I try to inspire confidence in myself and others that murky waters can always be navigated with a plan, positivity, and an underlying interest in learning from each stage of life.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My primary focus is teaching others how to meal plan, prep, and cook well-rounded meals while keeping an “everyday family” budget in mind. I also try and set my budget around what my family needs without having a lot of waste. Of course, this budget will look different for every individual or family, but the big picture is that different techniques and methods that I teach can be implemented by everyone.

I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to reach people that have learned something from me. Knowing that I’m making an impact in an area of life that is essential inspires me. I think the best thing about what I do is that I’m not that different from everyone else! What I do provide uniquely is a relatable approach to delicious food with a financially savvy mindset.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Family. My family, your family, all families. I think being around those we love and care for is the most important thing in life. The family is blood or family that is made up of friends. We all know food is a great way to bring people together, but it also is a foundation of health and wellness. I think everyone should be able to have a life rich with love, family, and health. So not only will food continually bring people together, but it can have an impact on the longevity of that togetherness.
