Today we’d like to introduce you to TaiTai Sa-Ra.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story begins when I was a bit younger. I have always considered myself to be very intrigued by life and the little things about it. Growing up I tended to be a bit more soft-spoken and liked to create drawings and other ways to express myself. I started with just basic drawings with old CDs to create faces and going from there to realism-based portraits. I continued to create various works of art from pottery, 2D design, and traditional art portfolios throughout high school.
Currently, I have shifted my focus from just traditional art forms into tattooing and taking on a new skill in this art form. It’s an exciting and challenging space to kind of walk into especially when you are used to just drawing on paper or canvas. Tattooing has created a new inspiration and passion for my artwork to blossom and expand. I am thankful for taking the step forward into this space and allowing it to grow me as an artist and develop some interpersonal skills.
I got to this point just by watching YouTube and following artists who had went to art school and then decided to take a different route in tattooing. I was inspired by the steps they decided to take and while it was the peak of the pandemic, I decided to begin my journey as a tattoo artist.
I’m very grateful for the opportunities that tattooing and my art are providing me in the art community within Denver and I am grateful for taking a huge leap of faith to pursue it as a career path.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say in life that not all leaps of faith go smoothly, and that is okay. I have had my own fair share of challenges while pursuing my art and wanting to share it with the world. Being soft-spoken and growing up this way, I always have this fear of becoming too known. I would often give into this fear and stop really putting effort into my art flashes/my works since I was worried about what kind of attention it would bring if I developed a larger following.
I can say I am still working through this as an artist and I am hoping by the end of this year I can truly show the world what I have to offer. Aside from this struggle, I can say that this journey has connected me with some amazing artists and community that I can feel my art thrives in. Denver is a small city but it’s growing exponentially day by day with opportunities so I’m excited to be a part of it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is composed of tattooing and hyper-realistic oil paintings. I specialize in tattooing, murals, and traditional painting as knit work. Tattooing is a new skill I am learning deeper and deeper about all the while falling in love with it as well. I would say what sets me in my own category is that I’m always very passionate about learning and sharing my stories with others. I find this life to have so many interesting layers to it as we age and I hope mu
I am the most proud for always finding ways to fall in love with art even if I have my moments of burnout or wanting to give up. Being an artist is not just about creating something but also learning our own habits that allow us to fully enjoy the process.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I would define success as when you have achieved the short-term and long-term goals you have paved for yourself as a person.
I find in my own desires for success that I just always want to be happy doing what I love to do, sharing it with people whom I adore and also adore me. Success is not always about the numbers on the screen or how much monetary that can be received. Success is being able to be who you are and being approached for doing just that while exhibiting the traits and talents that make you, you. Don’t compare your success to the next since everyone holds different values and expectations for themselves. It’s easy to get lost in that as a creative person.
