Check Out Tajia Maniscalco’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tajia Maniscalco.

Tajia Maniscalco

Hi Tajia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a photographer for 19 years and initially started off photographing models. In 2018 I quickly switched my focus to pets (after I got my first dog). Since starting Denver Pet Pics I’ve developed my own style and zeroed in a colorful/playful aesthetic. I’m always looking to learn something new and constantly experimenting to get that perfect shot.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been easy. It’s not every day you hear someone say: “I’m taking my dog to a photographer.” It’s a very niche business space and in the first few years, I put all of my energy into getting my name out there to build a brand. It makes it all worth it when I capture photos that parents love and will cherish forever. Getting to the studio and getting cooperation from the animals is the hardest part but once parents see their photos nobody ever regrets it!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer, digital artist, entrepreneur, and all-around creative. I post on social media constantly, although I would not consider myself an influencer. I’m most proud of most of my photography work because my portfolio is who I am and what I love most. It’s an expression of myself. I’m most known for my patience with dogs and my ability to bring out their emotions in photos.

My most popular series is what I call “Through the Licking Glass” which are portraits of dogs licking a glass window. Some people call it “screen cleanings” because when you have the photo set as your phone’s lock screen it looks like their pet is in the phone cleaning it.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Ironically, when I was a child I had a strong desire to become a veterinarian when I grew up. This is strange because I was never allowed to have a dog as a child, But something about working with animals always called to me.

I started working on Denver Pet Pics as a business in my late 20s and it felt like a full circle moment, I might not saving animal lives, but I definitely love creating moments in photos that will last forever. Creating a career for myself in the pet industry is something I know deep down I was meant to do.
