Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Green
Hi Tiffany, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Pickled Pepper was an online store 8 years ago. I sold only online and decided to open a store front on Main Street, with much more than just children’s clothing. Living in Brighton Colorado for over 20 years and raising my kids here, this is home. I know how much community means. The town is booming and new families coming in at a rapid rate and I knew I wanted to help them get connected. Parenting is hard, and brings many challenges. We wanted to help others build their “tribes”, just as we did when our boys were growing up. My boys are now 25, 23, and 20. And we are so grateful that we chose Brighton to build their roots in. We are now seeing their childhood friends getting married, having babies and we get to be apart of all of that. Having community is so much more than just having friends. Its having connections and a safe place.
Brighton had no Children’s Boutiques, so I knew I had a niche. The front of the store is the adorable retail store and in the back is our “Gathering Space” where the magic happens, and relationships start to build, through our many classes, playdates and meetups.
Unfortunately, Pickled Pepper will closing their doors at the End of February. We are deeply saddened by this and so is the community. We were a true asset to this community and we will miss the families that started to grow here. Unfortunately the rising costs of everything has forced our hands to close the doors.
I now have a deep desire to educate the community about small business and help the remaining businesses on Main street succeed. I hope to connect with the city on some level and gain their support. Since opening our doors nearly 2 years ago, I have seen small business after small business have to close their doors. Some lasting not even a year and others that have been open for 5+ years.
I’m not exactly sure what it is in store for Pickled Pepper this year, but I know God has great plans for us!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In some ways yes. We did exactly what we set out to do “build community”, the dots all connected, the community got excited and Pickled Pepper won 3 awards in their first year.
But financially it has been a struggle. Our historic downtown needs help. Parking is difficult, homelessness is taking over and there is little support for small businesses. Rising costs of Rent, supplies, inventory (all of it) has greatly increased in just the 2 years I’ve been here. And unfortunately it’s just not enough to run up again Large Chains, like Target and Walmart. We are definitely up against something much bigger than us!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a photographer for 12+ years. When I opened Pickled Pepper, I didn’t intend of merging the two businesses. But times got desperate, I needed to Pivot. I started opening up mini sessions in our space to help bridge the gap. It has been helpful, but again, not enough.
What sets Pickled Pepper Apart, is the community we build here. We are bringing families together, building tribes and lasting friendships. We are so much more than just a retail store.
How do you think about happiness?
Jesus, My Family and my Community. We get one life to live. Love others and make it as special as you can. You don’t get a “red0”
