Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Carter.
Hi Troy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have played guitar for over 40 years and have always dreamed of being in a band. My grandmother bought me my first guitar, a cheap Les Paul copy, and a small amp. That set me on the road to wanting to learn to play! Eddie Van Halen was a huge influence on me. He could do things on the guitar that no other guitarist could do. I had dabbled in a band back in the late 90s but that didn’t go anywhere. Flash forward to recent years, I had a divorce two years ago and I decided to do the things I wanted to do in life.
My good friend, James Buchannan, and I had been practicing during the COVID lockdown. We would practice over the computer, each being in our own home. It was challenging but we made progress! Once COVID settled down we recruited some others for the band and set out to make this happen! My motto is you only get one chance in life to do the things you want to do. I am living my best life now.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was a bit difficult at first trying to get gigs. All the bars want you to sell tickets, which can be challenging, especially when you are a new band. We signed with an agent last year and that has been great! He has been getting us gigs with guaranteed money and no more ticket selling. It’s the best!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a software analyst for a local hospital. This field I got into way back in 2001 has been very lucrative for me. I dropped out of college back in 1987 and went back in 1999 and received an Associate’s Degree in Computer Programming. I’ve come a long way since then.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Life is short. Reach for your dreams… now. Don’t take no for an answer. I do not want to lie on my deathbed and say, “I wish I would have done that”.
