Check Out Wesley Duckworth’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wesley Duckworth. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been baking all my life starting from a young age. I was accepted to culinary school at Auguste Escoffier in Boulder, CO. I graduated in early 2017 and spent the next few years developing my skills. I’ve worked in multiple styles of the hospitality industry i.e., Catering, restaurants, hotels, private, etc. Finally decided to branch out on my own concept. I’ve always had a love and appreciation for cookies and the creativity behind them. I’m looking forward to sharing my style of baking all the classic cookie flavors and the new unique ideas. Hand-delivered cookies every Saturday for Denver, Lakewood, and Aurora locals! 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s had its ups and downs. The biggest thing I’ve needed to learn is the ownership side. I had the baking skills down and the operation for the food component. Learning about bookkeeping, taxes, and other things done on the backside of the business has been a sharp learning curve. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am absolutely in love with all things food. My specialty is pastries, my absolute favorite. Pastries purpose is purely joy, no one is biting into a chocolate chip cookie thinking this is great for my diet. I love taking everyday favorites and making it the best version of itself. I always am most proud of my recipes that I spend weeks to months to years developing to get the absolute best version of itself. You will see what sets me apart from your first bite. 

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Talk to a tax professional and make sure you’re doing everything right the first time. Mistakes happen and it’ll only cost more money to fix them.
