Check Out Zack Finger’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack Finger.

Hi Zack, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Poland, Maine with a love for all things winter, my parents had me up on skis early as a little kid and I was at the mountain every weekend with my family. My mom was an instructor, and I started teaching at Mt. Abram at 14. I did a year of college in VT for Ski Industry & Resort Management but decided I didn’t want a seasonal job.

I went to the local community college to become a Machinist and then moved to Colorado in the winter of 2011 for a new adventure. Through my passion for winter sports and background in metal fabrication, Last Chair Customs was born. I had built just about everything there is in the metal fabrication industry. At that point, I decided I wanted to start building things that I wanted and now you can find my hand-crafted work scattered all over the country

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been quite challenging navigating through the past 12 years as the owner of Last Chair Customs. Operating in Boulder presents significant hurdles due to the exorbitant costs associated with doing business here. From securing adequate workspace and warehousing facilities to storing rental equipment, every aspect demands considerable financial investment.

At Last Chair Customs, our specialty lies in Alpine-Inspired Fabrication, where we breathe new life into retired ski lift chairs and gondola cabins sourced from various mountains across the country. Our business encompasses two main facets: Custom Fabrication and Event Rentals. On the Custom Fabrication side, we excel in refinishing chairs ​and gondolas for custom homes and businesses, crafting everything from Ski ​Lift Chair Benches to Ski ​Lift Chair Swings, and even transforming gondola cabins into unique workspaces and saunas.

For Event Rentals, we offer an extensive Alpine-inspired rental fleet, perfect for enhancing any Colorado or winter-themed occasion. From Gondola Bars and DJ Booths to distinctive seating arrangements featuring Ski Lift Chair Benches, Adirondack Chairs, and Snowboard Benches, we provide the ideal setting for memorable photo opportunities. Our rental fleet also includes vintage snowmobiles, ensuring a touch of nostalgia and charm.

Additionally, we offer Custom Fabricated Ski Chandeliers and personalized branding services for events ranging from corporate functions to weddings and birthday celebrations. Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Each purchase I make entails a risk-taking gamble. There’s the constant uncertainty of whether a product will sell or rent successfully, and whether it will resonate with customers as much as it does with me. As well as allocating marketing funds poses yet another risk – determining the most effective channels to invest in to maximize visibility and sales.
