Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Torres.
Hi Amber, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I had my first official job being dragged around by my stepmom, helping her clean houses for basically as long back as I can remember.
My younger years were a bit rocky. I ended up moving out at the young age of 16 and worked my way through high school. I got my official start cleaning for a maintenance company just outside of Chicago at the age of 17. I was cleaning banks and offices at night as a second job for about four years until I stepped away from cleaning to start a family.
After our first daughter was three, we decided to relocate from Illinois to Colorado. My husband had just finished a ten year service in the National Guard which included a tour in Kosovo. When we moved to Colorado we really wanted him to have time with our daughter since the military had required so much time away. We decided he would stay home for a year and I would work.
Being new to the Longmont area and moving out here with just our savings and no jobs lined up, I started offering up cleaning services in the local mom’s groups to generate some kind of income. Before I knew it, I had a full schedule all built from referrals and happy clients. I started to have more work than I could handle on my own and hired my first few team members just a few years in.
We now have an amazing team of 14 women and men and service about 200 clients per month!
I never really imagined we would be where we are today. But now that we are here we are excited about the future and are always working towards new goals. I am so grateful for the team we have and the ability to help them provide for their families, grateful for the clients who allow us to care for their home, and grateful to be fortunate enough to give back to our community members in need.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was definitely a journey filled with valleys and peaks. Times where things felt amazing and times where I was stressed about having enough to pay my own bills after paying our team.
We had never experienced the type of stress we did when we all got hit with the pandemic in 2020. We were navigating this new way of life and trying to find the safest way to run our business to still be able to provide an income to our team counting on this to feed their families.
We had a few months that were really hard. But in the end, we came out of that year stronger and on an amazing journey of growth within the entire company.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a nontoxic, eco-friendly, waste reduction cleaning company that has been proudly serving the Boulder Front Range since 2014. We specialize in move in/move out top to bottom services. We do over 300 move out cleans each year! We also have many residential recurring clients and manage and service many Airbnb, short-term rentals and commercial properties.
Many of our clients are busy families, young professionals, or elderly people needing help around the home. You don’t realize that the average person spends around 6 hours a week cleaning their home. Our goal is to help people get that time back so they can spend it doing the things they truly want to or need to.
Some of our most rewarding jobs are the ones we do for free. Yes, complete free.
I have had close friends and family members fight a strong fight with their health but many did not make it. Cancer is a sad thing too many people today have to deal with and they shouldn’t have to worry about cleaning their homes when they are fighting for their lives. Not to mention, having a space that is clean and sanitized is needed then more than ever.
When we learned about the Issa charity Cleaning for a Reason ( you can learn more at cleaningforareason.org ) we immediately knew we wanted to partner with them. Through their partnership, they help connect us with people who are currently going through Cancer treatments and provide them with two free cleanings. We have been partners now for a few years and are actually the only active cleaning partner in all of Colorado. We would love to spread the word about Cleaning for a Reason in hopes more cleaning companies will join as it is truly such a gratifying and empowering service to offer your community.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I genuinely feel like we have continued to grow and succeed at the rate we have because we are dedicated and committed to providing the same care and quality of service we started with when it was just me out there by myself.
We have created a beautiful culture within our company. I truly pick each new member of our team with so much care because we want people who align with our core values, see the vision we have for the future, and we genuinely want to see growth within our team as much if not more than the company itself.
I believe because we care so much about our team- they care about our business, our clients, and the job that they do.
In the end, everyone wins!
