Today we’d like to introduce you to Anastasia Ovanessoff.
Hi Anastasia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am from San Diego, CA and I started my career in floral design when I graduated High School. I took a foundational course in floral design and fell in love with it. I worked in a small flower shop in San Diego for over seven years, where I enhanced my floral design skills, learned how to be customer service oriented and how to manage and run a small business. During that time I spent a few months taking a Business of Floristry design course in London, England where I also landed a great floral internship. When I returned home in 2016, I decided to open my own floral business- a home-based design studio that specialized in weddings. All the while I was in school working towards a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in business and marketing. In 2020, I moved to Denver, CO with hopes of expanding my floral business here; the endless opportunity with wedding and event venues in the cities, mountains, and beyond really inspired me. Everything came to a pause when COVID happened, and it halted my small business. In 2022 I decided to press play on my business plans. I am opening a small storefront and scaling my entire business. I focus on floral design for weddings and special events and soon will offer studio classes and workshops.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It most definitely has not been a smooth road! Particularly with things out of my control, like the COVID pandemic, it has been hard to get my business to place and size I have always dreamed of. Owning, running, managing and marketing your own business is hard and takes a lot of patience, understanding and perseverance. Even though the road has been bumpy since I opened my floral business in 2016, it has helped me evolve my ideas into something that I really believe in. I have had time to grow as an individual, a designer, and a business owner.

Social Media has a lot of design inspiration and offers a lot of great advice from other small business owners. We follow a lot of people in the floral and other related industries and love this new wave of transparency. So many people are sharing their own successes and struggles in hopes of helping others. We are working on doing the same to help other people who are starting where we once started!
