Community Highlights: Meet Angela Myers of Barton House Foods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Myers.

Angela Myers

Hi Angela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been cooking and baking since I was a very little girl. I owe my love and skill for food craft to my grandmother, who was a self-taught chef. I moved to Denver in 2016 and although we have upped our food game since then, I was missing a lot of things I had been used to back home in New York. Seeing a market for new food businesses, I decided to throw my own hat in the ring and spark joy in the community through providing baked goods and chocolate. Barton House Foods is woman-owned and operated. You can find us at local pop ups, gift shops and markets. I still have a day job in the child welfare system. I see my baking and chocolate making as much needed levity and a big stress reliever for my day job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I was not prepared for the competitive nature of the local Farmers Market scene in Denver! It’s very hard to get a slot as a vendor in the larger well known markets, and without smaller local markets (like the absolutely amazing Rebel Market) I would never have been able to get off the ground.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Barton House Foods is an homage to the two women that raised me to truly believe I can do anything I set my mind to. My mother and my grandmother taught me that hard work and attention to detail mean everything. All our products are hand made in small batches. We are extremely proud of our chocolate products. We strive to create unique flavors and products you can’t find anywhere else. While you can find chocolate literally anywhere, our unique flavors and attention to quality ingredients and techniques set us apart. We currently operate out of a commissary kitchen and are working toward having our own storefront. Every purchase you make is appreciated and goes directly back into the business.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
You can visit our website or reach out via email to discuss ideas for collaboration. We can be found at local pop-ups and farmers markets around the city, and are always available for corporate orders or events large and small.
