Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Sillas-Green
Hi Angela, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I launched my business in March 2023. This was after many years of contemplating and wondering if this was the next step for me. During that time of contemplation, I had started a small business course to develop my business and get a little more guidance on determining whether it was a possibility. Eventually, I got what I thought was my dream job, but I found it drained me. I was stuck with bureaucracies and felt unsupported. This led me to finally move forward and start my telehealth counseling, consulting, and training business, Creating Change Counseling and Education. It is still a journey to learn build and fly the plane, but I feel more fulfilled. I work with amazing people, and I feel I can help them heal and gain the tools they need to be more successful and stop being stuck in unhealthy situations.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been smooth. I’m learning as I go. I have had to set up systems, learn to market, and understand how to manage a budget for a business. I have been exhausted, confused, and scared, at times. My degree is in clinical mental health, not business. I trust that I have all the skills, or can find people to support me, but that doesn’t negate that this process is not a straight line. At the end of the day, I think a huge hurdle is your mindset. I was thankful enough to take a course to help me understand that you must work on your mindset to be a business owner. There is a lot of vulnerability and a willingness to take risks.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Creating Change Counseling and Education?
Creating Change Counseling and Education, a woman- and Latina-owned business, is committed to delivering excellence in telehealth counseling services. I’m based in the heart of Pueblo, Colorado. While my training services primarily cater to southern Colorado, my counseling practice is accessible through telehealth, allowing me to extend my support to the entire state of Colorado.
I’m a highly-skilled Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and trainer with over 16 years of experience in the mental health field, I’ve worked with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, families, and communities, across various settings—from nonprofit organizations and educational institutions to private practice.
Through my experience, I’ve come to specialize in trauma, empowerment, relationship issues, and life transitions, with a specific focus on people of color.
My mission is simple yet profound: to provide safe and supportive environment for individuals to gain fresh perspectives and find the answers they seek. I offer personalized guidance and a range of techniques designed to empower my clients on a journey of self-discovery, equipping them with new tools, helping them identify their inner truth, overcome obstacles, gain clarity, and heal. Throughout this journey, clients can expect compassion, curiosity, empathy, and a little bit of humor to guide them.
Beyond counseling, I offer educational services. My passion for learning and discovery drives me to offer opportunities for change and growth to the world. I’ve had the privilege of training individuals ranging from youth to parents to professionals on a wide spectrum of topics, including parenting and family dynamics, healthy relationships, violence prevention, mental health, and overall wellness. Through these services, I will give people the tools to better understand themselves and others.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Denver and the surrounding areas. It is so clean and has beautiful views. It has a diversity of metro and rural areas.
I don’t really love snow, funny enough, at least having to venture out in it. I’m a Colorado transplant, so I get a little nervous when driving on snowy or icy roads.
