Community Highlights: Meet Annalicia Magdaleno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Annalicia Magdaleno.

Hi Annalicia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Well, this journey really started when I was 16 and has only gotten so much better since. I became a mother at a very young age so I’ve always had a heavier weight on my shoulders of what career I was going to pursue and how I was going to make it. I struggled with my interests in my early 20s but I knew I wanted a life that was going to allow me to still be an active and supportive mom. The life-work balance is so tough but it has always been my main goal. Fashion and beauty have always been a big part of my life and I studied for a bit at The Art Institute of Denver to further my education in business fashion. Although I enjoyed it, I wasn’t able to provide a life suitable enough for my daughter and me. Still having an admiration for the beauty, I started to take my talent a bit more seriously.

A few years later, in 2018, the beginning of my professional journey within the beauty industry took off. I previously assisted and began in professional makeup but have always enjoyed expression and creativity and wanted to do more. I received my esthetician license and started to build on my education where I found how out how much this industry really has to offer. I loved the connection I was able to build with my clientele but after working for several franchise companies, I realized that I was holding myself back. The amount of education accessible was far too great for the small field I was playing in. After four years, I took the leap to be on my own and open Skyn District, a small local beauty business. While I provide skin services and body waxing, I am currently in the stages of working towards a nursing degree to provide a more medical-based menu.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not. I would love to tell you that it was smooth sailing and I’ve enjoyed this entire journey but I would be lying. Anyone who has had to opportunity to turn their lives completely over will tell you life just hits harder. I love the dark humor about adult living and all that comes with it because I truly get through life with laughter. Change is not meant to be comfortable, struggling will always be a part of entrepreneurship, and you will be disappointed, you will fail. In that same breath, I would not trade my journey as I’ve met some pretty incredible mentors and friends through it. I think we forget as humans how hard we are on ourselves because of how dominating social media and the comments of others can be.

As a human, I struggle with mental health and the same image issues we all have before. As a mother, of a young one, I’m on the constant edge of wondering if I’m doing the best I can for her and if she’s feeling seen. As a business owner and professional, I cannot even express the stress I put on myself trying to just keep up with trends, my education, and just the obstacles of working for myself. I know there are people who can relate while reading this and just know, you are not alone. One thing I’ve learned for sure, take it by the day and live in the present. There is nothing you can do for tomorrow or yesterday.

As you know, we’re big fans of your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I started the business in hopes to connect more with my clientele. I enjoy the genuine connections made through this career and how I can be a part of making the people around me feel more of themselves! Right now the business caters to skin and body services. Fully body waxing has been a big staple for me but I do offer body contouring and facials. Brows and Brazilians are major! One thing I take pride in is the environment I’ve created for my guests. Not all of the services I offer are fun and relaxing, some of them are a bit uncomfortable, especially for a first-timer. When my guests arrive, they are always welcomed as a friend! The suite is a place to let loose and feels confident.

This is something I’ve had to build up for myself as well and I just like my guests to know that. Beauty is fun and creative, there isn’t room for judgment and when my guests come to see me, they know exactly that. I also really enjoy passing along the education. Not only do I provide these services, but I’m also providing the why’s and hows.

Whatever I learn outside of the treatment room comes right back and I love to pass on new tips and tricks. If you’re looking for an energetic, judgment-free beauty zone, come see me!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Enjoying the right company has become my favorite as I’ve gotten older. I vouch for doing anything that makes you happy, not what’s convenient for others.

Don’t waste time trying to make everyone happy by going to every birthday party, every family holiday, and every event, that only drains you in the end. I’m happy with good food, good conversation, and good music! I go wherever I feel called to that day and it usually involves at least one of those.

Pricing:

  • Brow Wax & Fill $22
  • Brazilian $62
