Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Buchholz.
Hi Ashley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started as a wrestling photographer for the University of Northern Colorado and Team USA events for both men and women. Three years ago, I discovered my passion for couples, weddings, and elopements, and I’ve been building my business in this area ever since.
In my first year, I shot only three weddings. Now, in the current year, I’m set to finish my 100th wedding. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’ve transitioned from capturing wrestling matches to documenting the love stories of couples on their special day.
Each wedding and elopement has been a unique experience, and I look forward to many more beautiful moments behind my camera.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey in photography took an unexpected turn when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Just as my wedding photography business was getting off its feet, weddings started getting canceled or postponed due to health and safety concerns. It was a challenging time for couples who had dreamed of celebrating their love with grand ceremonies and for photographers like me who depended on these events for our livelihood.
Amid the cancellations and uncertainty, I found myself drawn to elopements. Couples were reimagining their weddings in intimate, meaningful ways. They were opting for small, private ceremonies in beautiful outdoor locations or unique indoor settings, often with just a few close friends or family members in attendance.
These elopements were not only a safer choice during the pandemic but also a return to the essence of what weddings are all about – the love between two people.
We’ve been impressed with Ashley Kristine Photo, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a 22-year-old wedding and elopement photographer based in Windsor, Colorado, and what makes me stand out is my approach. I treat my clients like friends, and many of them have become close friends in my life.
My photography style is all about warmth. I edit photos uniquely for each couple, capturing their emotions and memories in every frame. I love shooting weddings, elopements, and couples in various settings. Whether it’s an adventurous mountain elopement or a grand 200-person wedding at a beautiful venue, I enjoy the diversity.
I’m energetic and hardworking, known for my quick delivery. I offer same-day sneak peeks and ensure I meet all timelines, so couples can cherish their memories without delay. What sets me apart is not just my photos but the personal connections I build, my warm editing style, and my dedication to delivering a great experience.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The wedding and elopement industry has experienced significant changes recently. COVID-19 made elopements more popular, with couples opting for adventurous outdoor ceremonies. Simultaneously, the desire for grand, 200-400-person weddings has made a comeback as people missed out on extravagant celebrations due to the pandemic.
This resurgence has made the wedding industry more profitable, providing opportunities for photographers and wedding-related businesses to cater to diverse preferences and settings.
