Community Highlights: Meet Beth Corlett of Good Stretch Yoga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Corlett.

Hi Beth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Good Stretch Yoga was created out of my passion to teach yoga outside of a studio, in a personal way and in a way that was authentic to me. If you don’t fit a mold, than create your own path. I wanted to offer one-on-one lessons for everyone, no matter what their limitations or challenges. Meeting my clients in the comfort and safety of their own home, allows them to open up in a way they wouldn’t necessarily in a studio. I didn’t feel this really existed before in an accessible way. I never really intended to start a business, it just naturally evolved. I had students requesting more personal instruction, questions on poses they had been struggling with for years and advice and guidance on preventing and working around injuries. I took on a few private clients as a side business and it’s grown since then. I’ve always felt that if something is right it will develop organically and Good Stretch certainly has.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The process of starting Good Stretch has been pretty fluid and natural, thankfully. I will say that the marketing and promotion side has been a challenge for me, not necessarily a struggle. Learning how to reach more people to grow your business in an authentic way has been quite a learning curve. My background is in finance, sales and business but I had no idea how to market myself. Hats off to those in that industry and are successful!

As you know, we’re big fans of Good Stretch Yoga. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Good Stretch Yoga was born out of a passion to bring yoga into people’s lives in a more personal way. I work with each client individually and build classes designed specifically for them and their body and then I bring the class to them in whatever space they are comfortable in. Some clients crave a slower pace, spirituality, calm. Some clients want strength, flexibility and mobility. Everyone is different and every body is different and we honor and celebrate that.

What I want my students to know is that yoga is not only for the skinny, flexible and young, it’s for everybody and every body. It’s not a pretty Instagram shot on the beach. Warrior II is not just a pose, it’s a pose that embodies strength, grace and vitality, it encourages focus and calmness of the mind, it promotes balance and stability, it it’s a hip opener, it’s a leg burner. It’s what you need it to be and what you learn from it at that moment in time. I started practicing yoga during a difficult time in my life just to get some movement in every day and to focus my mind on something else. It did that, and more. To say it’s changed my life profoundly is an understatement. I want to bring that feeling to everyone. Every day I get to wake up and know that I will be helping someone takes steps towards their goal and possibly change their life in the way that finding yoga has changed mine. Whether it be to have more daily movement or find tools for creating a calm and centered life. That is my inspiration every day. It takes a lot of courage to send an email or make a phone call and hold yourself accountable to changing how you feel, both inside and out. It is not easy to change, it is even less easy to stay consistent. I love that my students show up to their practice and I’m proud of them. When people think of Good Stretch I want them to feel safe, heard and inspired. I want them to know they are just not another student in a class. I listen, I create, I tailor and adjust so that they have the class that they wanted and needed. I want them to look forward to movement every day like I do.

What matters most to you?
It sounds simple but what matters to me most is trying to fill my life with the people, experiences and work that bring me joy and contentment. Truly trying to cultivate a life for myself that I’m happy and proud to live. With as little stress and drama as possible. Hard at times, I understand, but that is the goal and I work everyday towards that goal. Not only creating this life for myself but for others around me. Creating a peaceful and fun space and enjoying every moment.
