Today we’d like to introduce you to Caley Praiswater.
Hi Caley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been a creative person with a lifelong love for flowers, and, somewhat contrasting to those interests, I also enjoy overseeing details and managing lots of variable information to ensure things are running smoothly and correctly. So planning and florals/event design really match very well for me. My professional background prior to Fanciful was in social work and executive management, but I always missed those creative outlets in my 9 to 5. When I started Fanciful, I didn’t want to pick one or the other, so I thought, “What if I just leaned into both?!” And here I am!! It started as a side gig and has now blossomed into a full time business actively spanning all across the state.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our experience has been really fun and it is encouraging to see all the ways we have grown and made progress in our business. I think a lot of our success comes from having a positive mindset and being open to learning new things.
We are so happy and proud of where we’ve come, however I think it’s important to note that growth and learning are usually accompanied, in some way, by difficult decisions, fear, stress, or the desire to feel in control. When new concepts or opportunities come our way I can sometimes find myself in my head, struggling with what to do/which direction to go. In these times I try to remind myself to trust my intuition and just give it a try! Sometimes the best way to learn is by “doing,” and seeing where the chips fall. Sometimes those decisions work very well and other times you learn that it’s not something you want to pursue further, but either way, you’re learning and growing!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Fanciful Floral & Weddings?
We are a husband and wife team who really love helping our couples have the most amazing day possible. We love working together, we love weddings, we love celebrating life and celebrating love. To us we really want to make such a special day, truly, special! We offer wedding planning from consultation-only services all the way up to full planning and design. We are known for our kindness, our laid-back but get-it-done attitude, and our commitment to our couples and to our craft. We also offer custom floral and design and we strive to offer really beautiful, unique work at a price that the couples want to invest. While we value our time and our skill, we also value our customers, and we want them to feel that way from start to finish. I think one thing that sets me apart from others is that I really try to stay tied to the meaning of the day – even when I am tired or stressed or ready for some PTO!! I try to connect with the beauty and meaning of what their day means and remember they only get to do this once – make it the most beautiful for them that you can!! I think sometimes it can be hard to remember this and not get tied up with the in’s and out’s of working a career in the wedding industry.
We travel all over!!! We especially LOVE western slope and mountain-town weddings as well as mountainside elopements and intimate gatherings. We also love to travel and are willing to go anywhere with you!! East Coast, West Coast, Hawaii, Mexico, New Zealand… let’s go!! Let’s get fancy!!!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My husband and I are both originally from Missouri and moved to Colorado eleven years ago. Our family is in Missouri, everything we knew at the time, our jobs, community, etc. When we moved, we answered the call from the mountains and listened to that little voice in our souls that knew this is where we needed to be. And wow, what a beautiful decision. We are truly home here; we love Colorado!!!
It was also a huge risk to start Fanciful. I have been involved in some really wonderful organizations with great opportunities ahead of me. Leaving that security and going out my own was hard and scary!!
Both of these risks, I really feel, were centered on the question, “Can I trust myself to jump?”
And ultimately, my answer was, “Yes!!”
Risk-taking is not always an easy decision and sometimes there are real-life factors that influence your ability to lean into risk or act on the true desires of your heart, which I have also experienced! With these two choices though, I am grateful that I chose to take the leap and act on who I felt I was, what I wanted, and who I wanted to be.
Sometimes risks are not worth it. But sometimes they are worth everything! I would encourage others to ask “Is this risk going to allow me to be more of who I am and know I can be?” And if the answer is yes…
Well then I say, leap!! ❤️
