Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Johnson.
Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cerus was founded in 2017 and started — like so many other new businesses — in my garage. Our goal was to impact 100K people and we started by organizing a charity obstacle race that year. In 2018, we started to grow into more events and organizing group/ community fitness gatherings. Flash forward to 2020 we planned to open our first facility in March 2020 and ultimately ended up opening in November 2020 despite COVID. Cerus has continued to jump on new opportunities to grow and in 2022 increased our event series to 12 events in the Colorado area including some which were firsts in Colorado history. Our passion has always been creating new and exciting ways for people to engage in health and fitness and we continue to drive toward our goal of impacting 100K people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not a smooth road! We had a really challenging time conducting large-scale events as a young business– often setting up and tearing down in worst-case weather conditions and often taking large financial losses with our early events. We also met the challenge of our lives opening our facility in 2020 with COVID in full swing. Luckily our team has some awesome mental fortitude and the mindset we’ll see our vision come to light despite the obstacles in our path.
We’ve been impressed with Cerus Fitness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cerus Fitness is a fitness and events company for all abilities. We’re most proud of our community of positive and supportive people who not only share in our vision to bring lives into health and fitness but make it a whole lot of fun along the way. I’m most proud of the numbers we have started to see that reflect we are actually impacting lives for good: On average, we retain 98% of our clients each month (industry average is 80-85%) and 90% of our members consistently attend and train (industry average is a stunning 25%).
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We’ve loved being a business located within the Town of Frederick! The local government is very supportive and engaging to businesses like ourselves. Location wise, we have also really enjoyed being centrally located and able to serve the communities as far as Boulder, Longmont, Lafayette, and Thornton.
