Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Gregory Buford, Lauren Mitschrich, and Keeley Shields of Core Aesthetics Training Institute

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Gregory Buford, Lauren Mitschrich, and Keeley Shields. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Our story at the Core Aesthetics Training Institute started in October 2021 when Dr. Buford and Lauren, experienced trainers in the medical aesthetics field, realized there was no available off-label training for professionals in the area. Spurred on by a great leap of faith, they looked each other in the eye and declared: let’s make this a real business, let’s help these students out with real-world education.

The result of their efforts has been nothing less than astounding. In the two years since their business began, they have successfully trained over 60 Medical professionals, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in the Medical Aesthetics Industry. At Core, they stand by their motto of ‘Concise, Objective, Real world, Education’, helping their students to confidently and responsibly pursue their career ambitions.

Our CORE team is made up of 3 key members, Dr. Gregory Buford (MD FACS PCEO), Lauren Mitschrich(PA-C DMSC), and Keeley Shields (MBA). Dr. Gregory Buford (@beautybybuford), Board certified plastic surgeon, public speaker, key opinion leader, and founder of BEAUTY by BUFORD in Lone Tree, CO

Lauren (@theskinscholar) is a Board Certified Surgical Physician Assistant with nine years of experience in aesthetic medicine, dermatology, and plastic surgery. She was named in the Top 100 Best Aesthetic Injectors in 2019 and 2022!

Keeley Shields (@marketing4medical) provides value through our Business Development and Marketing courses, by teaching our students the power of Social Media and other tips and tricks she has learned throughout her career in the industry.

The CORE Aesthetics Training Institute is dedicated to helping Medical professionals confidently navigate the ever-changing landscape of Medical Aesthetics while providing unparalleled educational opportunities and a chance to become part of an amazing Medical Professionals Community. Our mission is to help create successful injectors and provide access to the highest quality education available in the Medical Aesthetics Field. We look forward to continuing to innovate and advance the industry through our unparalleled training.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
With every business, comes learning curves, and yes we are an educational facility, but we learn after every single course and every single student that walks through our door. We talk to each one of our students after the course and ask, “What could be better” “What pearls did you take away from this course”. From there, we make changes and improve every single time (seriously, we have changed our course flow so many times, to make it worth it and perfect for our students). Some other struggles we’ve endured include the demand and changing our classrooms (for size and growth), editing our didactic days so the information we’re sharing is well perceived and absorbed by our students (learning our audience more), and ensuring our students feel value after they exit our doors.

We’re committed to providing our students with the very best learning experience from start to finish. Every single course is a learning opportunity, our team uses the feedback from each student to make improvements and ensure our classrooms and program remain at the highest standard. With time, we’ve created an incredible network, giving our students opportunities to connect with those in the industry and take advantage of the tight-knit atmosphere that comes with the Medical Aesthetics industry. Now, two years on, we’re proud to see how much we’ve grown and excited to make even bigger impacts in the future.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Core Aesthetics Training Institute?

As the popularity of facial injectables continues to grow, so has the demand for skilled injectors. But the biggest challenge in entering this field has been gaining actual hands-on experience in the use of these products as well as understanding how to start and grow a successful injectable practice. And while most medical device and pharmaceutical companies do offer some form of training, they are limited by the FDA in the scope of this training and are restricted to on-label direction only. With a combined experience of over 20 years in the Medical Aesthetics Industry, we have had the honor of training with and for Medical Aesthetic practices across the country, and we can’t wait to share our expertise with you.

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
“Success is a moving target. And it always should be. What success means to someone in their early 20s is vastly different from success in their 40s and 50s. To me personally, success is legacy; the ability to look back and know that you have made an impact…no matter how small…and that the world will be that much different because of it.” – Dr. Gregory Buford

“Success to me is defining who I want to be and setting realistic goals and expectations for myself to achieve them. Success isn’t defined by one thing, but it takes one person (yourself) to push those limits on what it could be. That’s what we teach our students, and we encourage them to take that next step toward the dream career they want and to put in the work required to achieve their success. Success is limitless, but it takes a dedicated and motivated mind to achieve it” – Keeley Shields.

“I define success for us as making a difference. The aesthetic medicine industry is exploding as we speak. Thousands of healthcare professionals with all sorts of backgrounds are seeking a pivot in their careers. Yet, there is very little quality education for those seeking training before employment or before launching their businesses. Our vision for Core Aesthetic Training Institute is to provide brand-agnostic, high-quality, applicable education for new and experienced injectors to expand their understanding and advance their skills.

Ultimately, quality training protects patients from preventable complications and poor outcomes. Our footprint on the industry and legacy within the space will be producing super capable, educated, and prepared injectors who deliver exceptional results while maintaining the highest safety standards for their patients.” – Lauren M.
