Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Bohan.
Hi Emily, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My professional journey in health and wellness began in 2015 as a personal trainer at the University of Florida, where I trained under highly qualified specialists and worked with everyone from first-time gym-goers to semi-professional athletes. That same year, I earned my 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Certification, which gave me a deep appreciation for the connection between physical movement and mental health.
In 2021, I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy and went on to specialize in orthopedics, sports, and pelvic health. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of helping clients ranging from recreational athletes to Olympic-level competitors, with a growing focus on individuals navigating pelvic health, hypermobility and complex musculoskeletal conditions.
My personal wellness journey began in 2013, when I became passionate about sports, yoga, weightlifting, and the role of nutrition in supporting both physical and emotional health. After dealing with constant injuries in high school and early college, I developed a deep passion for health, wellness, and the power of corrective exercise. Over time, I learned about hypermobility and how it impacts joints, connective tissue, and overall wellness—not just in myself, but in many of the people I work with, including those with hEDS. I’ve since competed in 5Ks, powerlifting meets, and obstacle course races. These days, I balance my love of movement through hiking mountain trails with my dog Skye, weightlifting, snowboarding in the Colorado Rockies, and horseback riding.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but it’s been an incredibly rewarding one. My own injuries have given me a deep understanding of the mindset, struggles, and victories my patients and athletes experience—and have reinforced my belief in the importance of holistic health. During the first three years of my physical therapy career, I worked in high-volume clinical settings where I gained invaluable experience, but I began to feel the need to slow down—to provide more intentional, higher-quality care for complex cases. That realization led me to step away from the conventional model and create a more personalized approach that blends my background in nutrition, physical therapy, and personal training to support the body as a whole.
As you know, we’re big fans of Bohan PT & Training PLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a physical therapist and personal trainer that specializes in pelvic health, people with hypermobility conditions including hEDS, and recreational/semi-professional athletes. I believe movement is medicine, and take a holistic approach combining nutrition counseling, exercise and rehab while accounting for other life factors (we all have stress!) to help patients find the best version of themselves and their health. I believe pelvic health and the impact of hypermobility is often overlooked and SO important!
Especially pelvic health, it affects both men and women!
I offer one on one coaching in both the virtual and in-person format.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I have multiple hypermobile joints and dealt with chronic pain and dislocations when I was younger – but years of the RIGHT training has helped me self-manage so much! Its a large part of my passion in that field. Same for pelvic health – when I first started powerlifting, had issues with pelvic pain and urinary incontinence with my heaviest lifts and so my personal experience sent me searching for answers. Haven’t had issues for years now!
