Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Fisco.
Hi Gregory, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I began Unit 11 Pictures in the spring of 2011 with my childhood friend, Joshua Romero. I had taken some screenwriting classes and he was shooting footage for a local car magazine at the time. We got together and naively decided to begin production on a feature film with no prior filmmaking experience. In short, we began production in October of 2011 and failed terribly, We took another shot in the fall of 2012 and couldn’t make it work. We tried yet again in 2013 but suffered the same fate.
With each failure, we walked away with a film production lesson and experience. We decided to try one last time in 2014 and agreed that nothing would stop us from completing a film. Obstacles and issues popped up but we were able to complete our first film with a runtime of 35 minutes. The following year we completed another short film and each year after our momentum continued. Bringing us to this year, which marks our 12th year in business, Our repertoire currently has 10 short films. We’ve been selected for numerous film festivals and have walked away with a couple of wins.
We are still growing, learning, and are currently aiming to begin production on two features by the end of 2023.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been many struggles along the way, in the beginning, the challenges were understanding the filmmaking process from a producing POV, scheduling, and budgeting.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Unit 11 Pictures?
We are an entertainment company. I think storytelling is a great tool in our lives. A good film can conjure up an assortment of emotions and can transport a person anywhere.
Whether it’s a love story, a horror, or a good mystery. It can be a wonderful escape from reality. As of now, we’ve mostly completed Thriller/Horror films. Our short film The Congressman which is available for free was one of our favorite projects we’ve worked on, and have hopes to revisit it in the future to tell a longer story.
The Disturbance Call did the best with festivals and we had great memories working on that project. In each of our films, we’ve poured out hearts and souls into each, we are extremely passionate about the art of storytelling and we believe it shows.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
After our third failed attempt, and contemplating whether or not to continue trying to make a film.
A co-worker of mine Larry Daniello was a great support figure, he just suggested not giving up and continuing to try. We took his advice and did just that.
Also friends and family along the way have been very supportive, attending screenings, and promoting our work.
