Today we’d like to introduce you to James Fedler.
Hi James, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
James (formerly known as Bailey James Fedler) was a dedicated member of Nieves Ministries, where he served as the sponsorship/grant coordinator. He was deeply involved in his community, pursuing a business degree in college and working toward a life of personal transformation and healing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not a smooth road for James; rather, his life was a testament to his resilience in the face of profound and compounding struggles. His journey was defined by a constant, courageous battle to overcome the weight of his past and the obstacles of his present.
According to those who knew him through his work at Nieves Ministries, James’s struggles included:
• Childhood Trauma and Past Pain: James’s decision to transition from being known as Bailey to James was a direct response to a history of pain. He sought to leave behind a past that no longer served him, working hard to process the “weight of past mistakes” and the lingering effects of childhood experiences that haunted him into adulthood.
• Mental Health and Self-Harm: James was open about his intense battles with mental health. These struggles were deep and personal; he wrestled with significant internal pain and fears that often felt overwhelming. While he pursued therapy and a “hunger for healing,” the road was marked by the difficult reality of self-harm and the dark seasons where he struggled to believe in his own worth.
• Instability and Hardship: His path was further complicated by external pressures, including periods of housing instability and financial insecurity. Navigating these basic survival needs while trying to pursue a college degree in business and maintain part-time work added immense pressure to his daily life.
• The Weight of Redemption: James frequently reflected on big questions regarding purpose and redemption. He often felt he was fighting an uphill battle to become “someone better,” at times feeling “too far gone” despite the constant reassurance from his friends that transformation was always possible.
Despite these heavy burdens—the trauma, the mental health crises, and the physical hardships—James’s story is remembered for his “quiet strength.” Even when the road was at its roughest, he continued to show up for others, pour himself into his writing, and fight for the peace he deserved.
We’ve been impressed with Nieves Ministries, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Serve Aurora: The Mission of Nieves Ministries
Serve Aurora is the central community hub for Nieves Ministries, a faith-driven nonprofit co-founded by James’s close friends, Alexander Nieves and Jeremiah Banks. It operates as a “unified hub” to coordinate safety, culture, and compassion in Aurora, Colorado.
When people think of Serve Aurora, they are looking at a brand built on faith-in-action. It isn’t just a resource list; it’s a boots-on-the-ground operation that provides:
• Pinnacle Defense: Colorado’s first nonprofit security ministry, providing professional safety for churches, events, and local businesses with a focus on de-escalation.
• Cultural Empowerment: Hosting the Viva La Isla Del Encanto Festival through the Puerto Rican Chamber of Commerce of Colorado.
• Crisis Support: Direct outreach for homelessness, food and clothing distribution, and care kits.
• Project J.F.I.R.E.: A community service program that provides a safe, structured environment for individuals to complete court-ordered hours while giving back to their city.
James’s Role: The Specialist Behind the Scenes
James was the Sponsorship and Grant Coordinator for the ministry. While the founders were often the face of the organization, James was the engine that powered the logistics.
• What he specialized in: James was an expert in Sponsorship Procurement and Detail Management. He excelled at identifying potential partners, securing the funding necessary to keep programs free for the community, and ensuring that every donor felt the impact of their contribution.
• What he was known for: He was known for his meticulous thoroughness. In the world of nonprofits, details can be the difference between a successful event and a missed opportunity. James was the one who asked the “thoughtful questions” others missed, making sure no detail was overlooked in the planning stages of major outreach events.
• The “Legacy Project”: Recently, Nieves Ministries launched a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting specifically honoring James Fedler. This event solidified his status as a cornerstone of the organization, moving him from a coordinator to a permanent part of the ministry’s identity.
What Set Him Apart?
What set James apart from others was his radical honesty and vulnerability. While many in professional or ministry roles feel the need to project a “perfect” image, James led with his truth. He used his personal struggles with mental health and trauma not as a badge of shame, but as a bridge to connect with the very people the ministry served. He didn’t just “do” charity; he lived the transformation he was advocating for. His pride wasn’t in a title, but in the tangible growth of the brand—seeing a small neighborhood outreach grow into the comprehensive hub that is ServeAurora.org today.
What James Wants You to Know
If James were speaking to your readers today about the brand, he would want them to know three things:
1. Dignity is Non-Negotiable: Whether you are receiving a meal, attending a festival, or hiring security through Pinnacle Defense, you are treated with the love of Christ and absolute respect.
2. Transformation is Possible: The ministry exists to prove that no person or neighborhood is “too far gone.” The same healing James sought is what the ministry offers to every person who walks through their doors.
3. Community requires “All-In” Participation: He would encourage readers to get involved—whether as a volunteer, a sponsor, or someone looking for a fresh start.
James’s story lives on through every grant secured and every life touched by the outreach he helped build.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?

Project J.F.I.R.E. (James Fedler Initiative for Redemption and Empowerment)
The cornerstone of James’s legacy is Project J.F.I.R.E., a program created by Nieves Ministries to reflect James’s heart for second chances. James knew firsthand that the road to healing is often blocked by legal and financial hurdles, and he wanted to create a bridge for others.
• Community Service with Purpose: This program provides a structured, safe environment for individuals to complete court-ordered community service hours.
• Empowerment: Rather than just “serving time,” participants engage in meaningful work like food distribution, event logistics, and community outreach.
• A Path Back: It stands as a testament to James’s belief that no one is ever “too far gone” to begin again.

• Monthly Giving: A goal of $1,000 per month ensures the ministry has a physical space to act as a “unified hub” for Aurora residents.
• Direct Donations: Contributions go toward care kits for the unhoused, crisis support, and the operation of Pinnacle Defense.
A Message for Readers
The founders of Nieves Ministries, Alexander Nieves and Jeremiah Banks, want you to know that James’s story didn’t end on July 30th. Every time someone finds their footing through Project J.F.I.R.E. or a family receives help through the ministry, James’s work continues.
What James would want you to know about the brand: Serve Aurora is about more than “help”—it’s about belonging. It’s a place where your past doesn’t define your future, and where transformation is an active, daily pursuit.
