Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Lowery Pranav Chawla.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Dr. Lowery and Dr. Chawla are both veterinarians with multiple years of experience in many aspects of veterinary medicine. Our experiences include general practice veterinary care, emergency care, shelter medicine, regional director and leadership roles, as well as industry roles. A vision for a veterinary practice with a positive and supportive culture, centered on employee wellness and exceptional patient care has brought us together as partners. Dr. Jeff’s many years of experience promoting collaborative workflows in the clinic setting, combined with Dr. Chawla’s background in mindfulness meditation teaching lead to the birth of their clinic–PetVet365 Somerset in Aurora, CO, opened in the Somerset shopping center Oct. 4th, 2023, the first of its kind in Colorado!

Our hospital is designed, and our team is trained to provide Fear Free veterinary care for dogs and cats 7 days a week. This means that we aim for pet patients to experience little to no fear, anxiety or stress! We utilize compassionate handling techniques, in exam rooms that look like your living room in order to keep the vibes as calm and enjoyable as a house call would be. We don’t utilize a waiting room, therefore the flow of pets through the clinic is performed utilizing text communications, under an appointment-based model. This way no unfamiliar pets cross paths unnecessarily. Throw in a pup cup (cool whip) greeting at the door, to lick mats with peanut butter or cheese during the exam, keeping stress levels at the bare minimum. We know pets with previous challenges will have more struggles as they do remember tough experiences, so we also utilize Chill Packs (anxiety medications) for those pets who need a little extra relaxation in their experience. There are currently sister hospitals in Highlands Ranch (PetVet365 Alpenview), Denver (PetVet365 University) and Westminster (PetVet365 Westminster) affectionally known as “Westy”!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Fear Free care provides a significantly smoother medical experience than trying to manhandle pets, for both clients as well as the veterinary team. Our biggest hurdle has been making it known that we are here and simply that there is another way to practice veterinary medicine. Fear free care is new concept in our profession that many clients are pleasantly surprised to learn about and witness it performed for their pets. Another challenge is training our new team members of how to utilize Fear Free method–to slow down and go at the pets’ pace instead of their own. We refer to that as being more Pet Centric and less Vet Centric. This requires much unlearning of techniques of pet handling that were previously seen as acceptable.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
PetVet365 hospitals all utilize Fear Free care every visit, every day. We are open 7 days a week at most locations and provide thorough Preventive Care through VIP Wellness Plan packages that include all the immunizations, parasite preventions, heartworm/tick/intestinal parasite tests, yearly lab-work package and dental cleanings.
