Community Highlights: Meet Jennifer Fly of milehimodern

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Fly.

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
One of my first jobs in Boulder was working as an assistant for a successful luxury agent in Boulder. I was a young single mom and fell in love with the business and the flexibility it offered me to work around my young daughter’s schedule.

I worked during the day and then took classes at night to complete my degree in finance at the University of Colorado, and I also got my real estate license around that same time. From there, I spent 7 years working for a luxury real estate developer, which gave me great insight into many facets of the business. After my son, Jack, was born in 2006, I decided to move into residential sales full-time and spent the next 15 years working for a luxury boutique firm in Boulder, the last six as their Vice President.

I was approached by the leaders of Milehimodern in 2021 to open and run their Boulder office, and now less than 3 years later, we have over 50 amazing agents and are one of the top 3 firms in the city.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This real estate business is not an easy one. I have lived and worked through some very up-and-down markets, and it can be highly stressful for clients dealing with one of the largest financial decisions of their lives. And when you work on commission, as soon as you get through a great closing, you quickly start wondering where the next one will come from.

It is also difficult to find balance in this career, which can be incredibly demanding at times. While it gave me the opportunity to have some flexibility with my schedule, there were trade-offs for being able to pick my kids up from school. Lots of late nights and early mornings and tons of weekends. I’ve spent hours on family vacations trying to negotiate a deal or keep one together. It’s just not one of those jobs that you can ever clock out of.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I fell in love with Milehimodern’s passion for transforming what it means to buy or sell properties and the collective desire to rise above the mediocrity that is so often found in this business.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I have been incredibly fortunate to have wonderful mentors throughout my career who gave me the opportunity to observe and learn from them.

It is so important to surround yourself with people who know more than you, and milehimodern has created an incredibly collaborative community of agents who continuously learn from and support each other through small group masterminds, accountability groups, and open sharing with one another.

A career in real estate can be very isolating, and in many situations, it can feel very competitive and like it’s “every man for himself.” If you are starting as a new agent, it’s critical to align yourself with a brokerage that can support your growth and education as you build your career.

Make a commitment to attend classes, conferences, networking events, community events, and training whenever you can to continue to grow. In this constantly changing business, you can never stop learning.
