Community Highlights: Meet Julia Deaton of GG Health Plans, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Deaton

Hi Julia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It took me a long time to get to where I am now. My early adult life was rather difficult with personal life challenges. It took living with my Grandparents in California to feel stable enough to sit down and think about my future. From serving at multiple restaurant jobs to driving for Uber, I finally happened upon Respiratory Therapy. I went through the degree program and graduated top 5 in my class. I moved back to Colorado during the peak of COVID-19 to work in a level 1 trauma center in the Denver Metro area. After 3/4 years of Respiratory, I found myself dissatisfied with where I was at in life. There was still something missing, regardless of the amazing work I was doing. I ended up searching online for a sales position to switch things up a bit and leave patient care entirely and that’s how I ended up here. I spoke with my now mentor who lit a fire inside of me and inspired me to start my own business and create my own destiny. I now have several business partners that I get to do day-to-day life with and have basically helped me mold this new version of myself. I have never felt at home before in my life. This business venture really helped me come back to myself and pushed me just far enough to believe in the power that I hold.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
HECK no. Starting a business never is, I don’t care who you talk to. Every single business owner runs into different issues whether it be financial, personal, technological, etc. For me, I had to look internally. There were habits that I’ve acquired over the years that I’ve had to kick and learn to build myself up at the same time. There were things about me that I had to critique in order to be the kind of person who is strong enough and resilient enough to create a successful business from the ground up. Correcting toxic behaviors and not giving yourself the benefit of the doubt is incredibly difficult. You need to WANT that kind of change for yourself. You basically need to give yourself no other choice but to change so that the dominos can fall appropriately for a successful life.

As you know, we’re big fans of GG Health Plans, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At GG Health Plans, I help individuals and families between the ages of 18 and 65 navigate the health insurance world! I specialize in self-employed individuals and small businesses but can help people across the board with saving money or providing direction. I can shop in both the private market and public marketplace (Obamacare/ACA/Exchange) and am licensed in over 25 states.
What sets me apart is my existing knowledge in healthcare. Working on the patient care side of things, I have extreme empathy for folks navigating the claims side of things. With that work history, I’m determined to put my existing and future clients in the best position possible so that if (God forbid) there is a major medical event or accident, they don’t go bankrupt trying to take care of themselves.
I want everyone to know that working with a broker/agent is completely free. Also, working with a broker gives you an edge. I can help with most tedious tasks when it comes to health insurance like claims and searching for providers in your area. I do customer service for my clients year-round. You can come to me first with questions and/or issues before calling an 800 number and having to speak to automated messages or wait on hold forever.
I love what I do and I take it very seriously which are important traits to have as someone who primarily works in customer service.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
This is going to sound cliché, but do not, under any circumstances, give up. You need to accept that things are going to be hard. You are most likely going to reach your breaking point. But what sets YOU apart from the rest is resilience. If you get knocked down, pick yourself back up. Being a business owner is not for the weak. You are going to need to give it everything you got.
My favorite motivational video says, “You just gotta be a little bit tougher than your circumstances.” I listen to that line every time and remind myself that, yes, it’s going to be hard. But I’m tougher than that.
As for what I wish I knew… I’d say nothing. I came in knowing that I was going to have to make a lot of sacrifices and work my you know what off. But nothing worth having comes easy and I know I’m going to make it happen no matter what.
