Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Miller Davis.
Hi Julie Miller, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I worked as a high school English teacher for 17 years, all the while getting really good at boundaries, delegating, and making sure I protected my time. While other teachers were working 15-20 hours outside of the school day, I was working 5 to 8 max. I wasn’t willing to give up the things I loved to my job. I created systems that never sacrificed my students’ business education or my own well-being.
Fast forward about 11 years, and you’ll land where I launched JMD Productivity Training. While running another business, I found that many business owners were asking me how I was building the business I was building working the edited schedule I worked. I found that I had strengths and skills that not many come easily by. Thus, my business was born! I now help entrepreneurs and business owners reset their habits and patterns so they can focus their time and energy on the things that will move the needle forward rather than seemingly spinning in place or being overwhelmed because they’re trying to do everything.
My background in teaching and human communication and leadership has helped build an award-winning business and help hundreds of business owners build bigger and better businesses than they ever thought possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, building this business hasn’t been all wine and roses. There have definitely been challenges along the way. My company has been through a few iterations to be sure! I started off with just one-day workshops and thought that people would be lined up out the door! I quickly learned that to not just provide people with a band-aid and to affect real change, I needed to spend time training my clients on one small thing at a time so that what I taught them stuck. So, after trial and error, I created a 6-month program and two six-week courses, and a three-day event for people to take along their journey. I also was no expert at business, so sales didn’t come easily, nor did marketing! So those have been my coaches along the way. It’s been a learning process to be sure. Every bump or stumble is a learning opportunity, though, right?
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I specialize in the resetting of habits, in my business, which leads to higher productivity and new ways of thinking and approaching business. What I do that’s really unique is aligning habits, values, vision, goals, and calendar control with how a person is approaching their business. I am not a time management coach, although many come to me and start there. If we don’t become aware of our habits and implement tools to put new habits in place, we’ll continue to loop back again and again to the things that keep us stagnant. I am about busting through business stagnation and thinking about things from a proactive space, which includes foundation laying and performance. JMD Productivity is at all levels about moving from thinking about things, wishing for things, and wanting things into intentional action.
I would say what I’m most proud of is the fact that what I do provides immediate relief for business owners and gets them moving rapidly in new directions. I have had many of my clients break into the 6-figure mark or more than double their businesses in the first year of working with me. It’s very exciting and rewarding what happens when we make space to let business flow!
It’s important to know that you can start this journey into elevated productivity and intentional action wherever you are. Even those who don’t feel “stuck” benefit from brushing up on what their habits are and digging into what they could do differently. That’s what my company is all about. I have a six-week course on prioritizing, one on proactive planning and problem solving, and I have my 6-month program that puts even more into place! I have had anywhere from brand new business owners to seasoned by years come and get big results.
What does success mean to you?
Success for me is that great balance between doing what you love in work and in life. When things are all work or all play, it’s not satisfying. But if we can truly work how we want to work, doing the things we are good at and passionate about and we also get to spend time doing the things we love with the people we love, then that’s the dream. Right?
