Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Zemunski
Hi Katelyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After college, I spent a few years floating around from restaurant to restaurant as a waitress or in a management role. I slowly started to realize how toxic that environment was for me. A lot of restaurant employees would fall to drinking a lot or doing drugs. I never succumbed myself but realized being around that and not to mention, the late nights closing down a bar, were getting to me and my mental health.
I finally decided to take my mental health into my own hands and check out a new career path. I had always been into health and wellness and began to look into alternative therapies when I stumbled upon massage therapy. Even though I had never thought about it before, I found a school and enrolled as soon as I could. I was surprised at myself because I really had never thought of massage therapy as a potential career path but slowly found myself loving it as school went on.
I graduated in the summer of June 2019 and began working at a small local spa in Denver. After a few short months, Covid 19 hit and as many others, was out of a job. While the world was shut down, I used that time to figure out my next steps.
Eventually when I was able to work again. I had it! I started my own mobile massage therapy business. I’d go into clients homes and work on them. People seemed to love this as no one was really ready to go back to the way things were quite yet. I worked hard at building a clientele over the next year and a half until one day an acupuncturist reached out to me and asked if I’d like to share her room with her. We ended up becoming friends and later down the road, she decided to open up a wellness center
called The Olde Town Arvada Wellness Collective. I’ve been there for two years now!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the first few years, it felt as if things were falling into place. I stopped taking on mobile clients and now only see clients at my office. My office felt (and still does feel) like home away from home. However, a few months after moving into the wellness collective and my marriage to wonderful husband, my brother passed away suddenly. It ripped a huge hole in my heart and affected how I showed up for my clients. But now that I’ve had a few years to heal, I’ve found this tragedy has allowed me to show up for my clients with even more empathy than before.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a licensed massage therapist and the owner of Sacred Eye Massage here in Arvada, Colorado. I’m passionate about helping other’s navigate chronic pain through intentional bodywork. I believe in the connection of the body and mind as a whole. Through this lens, I look to help others restore their health and balance and to feel more at ease in their bodies through relaxation and nervous system regulation. I’m most proud that I focus on slow and intentional work to create space and ease throughout the body.
What makes you happy?
Making others happy makes me happy. If someone can leave my table feeling better or happier than they were coming in, that is my why for doing this.
