Today we’d like to introduce you to Kati Betters.
Hi Kati, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was first introduced to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) at the age of 19. My mother suffered a near-fatal spinal injury and was referred to an acupuncturist after being discharged from the hospital. Curious about her recovery, I decided to seek treatment for my own issues, which included chronic fatigue and nightmares. I quickly fell in love with the medicine and its healing potential.
In 2011, I began my Master of Science in Acupuncture at the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine (now renamed CCMU), graduating in 2014. While preparing for my National Board exams in 2015, I continued my education by pursuing a Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine, with a focus on herbal pharmacology, which I completed in 2016. I have been practicing for over 10 years.
In 2020, I decided to advance my expertise by enrolling in the Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program at Five Branches University, which I completed in 2022.
I maintain clinics in both Denver and Aurora, Colorado. Additionally, I have served as a part-time student clinic supervisor at CCMU for over 8.5 years. From 2016 to 2021, I worked as a Chinese herbal pharmacist at Yan Jing Supply.
My clinical focus spans a broad spectrum of health concerns, with expertise in Chinese psychology, trauma, pain management, and sleep disorders. I also frequently treat women’s health issues, digestive disorders, and immune system support. Most recently, in April 2024, I received certification in botanical-based injection therapy, which I now incorporate into my practice.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has been quite fluid, largely driven by my genuine passion for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)—it is truly an ardent love of mine. However, I have also come to realize that being a business owner requires constant hustle. The state of the economy significantly impacts my practice; for instance, during the lockdown, acupuncturists in Denver were not allowed to practice for six weeks, which made it difficult to recover afterward.
Since January, I have also observed a lot of consumer trepidation, which has pushed me to find more creative ways to maintain my practice. One venture being that, I am currently developing my own line of pain and trauma recovery topicals infused with Chinese herbs. I expect these to be ready for testing this summer. This project has allowed me to expand my understanding of Chinese herbs beyond the internal medicine approach I am accustomed to, exploring their external applications in new and exciting ways.
We’ve been impressed with Interwoven Balance Acupuncture & Healing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As I mentioned earlier, I approach health from a comprehensive perspective within my practice. This includes a wide range of modalities rooted in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine (both internal and external applications), fire cupping, moxibustion, electro-stimulation, ear seeds and tacks, tui na massage, as well as nutritional and lifestyle counseling. I recognize that TCM can be unfamiliar to many people, which often leads to questions. I am very open to consultations and happy to discuss any concerns or inquiries.
Additionally, I differentiate myself through my background in energy work from my undergraduate studies, and my commitment to providing care that is compassionate, personalized, and results-oriented. I dedicate ample time to everyone, often extending treatment sessions in a private setting to ensure thorough care and attention to each person’s unique needs. I joyfully provide a safe space for anyone seeking well-being.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I feel like I have lived many lives within this one. My passions include travel, cooking, and going to concerts—some of my patients might be surprised by the kinds of music I enjoy. If you ever have questions about places to visit, feel free to ask—I might have some good recommendations!
