Community Highlights: Meet Katia Nunez of Legacy Group at Megastar Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katia Nunez

Hi Katia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Born in Durango, Mexico, I moved to the U.S. at the age of four and grew up in Greeley, Colorado. Coming from a lower-income household, my family and I shared a home with relatives until my parents were able to buy a house. From a young age, I understood the value of hard work and opportunity, starting my first job at McDonald’s while in high school.

I pursued a degree in Business Marketing at the University of Northern Colorado, but after graduation, I struggled to find a marketing job due to a lack of experience. Determined to build a better future, I pivoted into the administrative field as an administrative assistant. Moving to Denver, I worked two jobs—one part-time at a local restaurant—to make ends meet. Eventually, I advanced to an executive assistant role, providing more stability.

Still striving for growth, I pursued my real estate license. Over time, I realized that my marketing degree and real estate go hand in hand, as real estate is a creative field that heavily involves social media and branding. This has allowed me to merge my education with my passion, creating new opportunities for myself and my future.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but i’ve been enjoying the process. There have been many challenges along the way- financial struggles, career setbacks, and long days. Even after earning my degree in Business Marketing, I faced the harsh reality that a degree alone wasn’t enough—I struggled to land a marketing job due to a lack of experience. That forced me to pivot into the administrative field, which wasn’t part of my original plan.

In real estate, things haven’t always been easy. It looks easy and fun on social media and reality T.V. but in reality It’s a competitive industry that requires patience, persistence, networking, marketing and strong negotiating skills. But over time, I realized that my marketing background could be a huge asset in real estate, especially with social media and branding. That shift in mindset helped me merge my education with my career path in a way that finally made sense. I am very passionate in what I do and fell in love in this career I came to realize that this is what I’m meant to be doing.

Despite all the struggles and bumps in the road, I’ve always found a way to adapt and push forward. Every challenge has shaped me into the person I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I believe in home. Home is more than just a physical space – it’s the place where your life unfolds. It’s where you’ll make memories, find comfort, and build your future. As a bilingual real estate agent, I provide exceptional service to first-time home buyers, sellers, investors including those involved in fix-and-flip projects. Guiding them through one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives. I have worked with investors that do fix and flips. My marketing background is a huge asset, it helped me build my brand and connect with clients through social media.

I’ve personally navigated the real estate process and represented myself in my own transaction, giving me a firsthand understanding of the client experience.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I have always been a determined person. My parents brought me to this country in search for a better life, and I’ve been fortunate to push myself, take risks, and create opportunities that bring me close to reach my goals. I’ve always been a social person in school I was always involved in extracurricular activities. People would describe me as bubbly and kind. Some of my hobbies are working out I see working out as a stress reliever to clear my mind and relax. I like to go out and try new restaurants with my boyfriend, friends and family. I enjoy traveling and learning about different cultures. I’m passionate about real estate, I enjoy learning about changes in the market, staying updated with market trends and ways to improving my business.
