Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Govier.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I got a job at lululemon, I was HOOKED. I thought I was going to be the next CEO, and for six years, I busted my ass, climbed the ladder, and made sure I put myself in a position to continue growing with the company. Everything was going fine and dandy until… Covid. It became pretty evident to me very quickly that this was no longer the place for me. I wanted freedom from the corporate day-to-day and the ability to work when I wanted, where I wanted. As hard as I worked for those six years, I never really reaped the financial reward of all my blood, sweat, and tears. But they sure did!
In June of 2021, I made the leap and started full-time as a real estate agent and never looked back. Helping people and providing the best possible service that I can has always been the most rewarding thing for me in any job. Now, I get to focus on my clients and their needs, and I am in the driver’s seat at all times!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Making the transition from a steady paycheck to being 100% self-employed has definitely been hard at times. I went full-time in June but didn’t sell my first home until September. Needless to say, it can definitely be stressful sometimes! This crazy market is tough but I’ve been lucky to sell 10 homes in my first year of real estate.
As you know, we’re big fans of Sweat Equity Real Estate. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
When I first started real estate, I joined a team and am so grateful that I had that experience to learn and grow. But, when it was time to take the leap and do my own thing, I wanted to create a personal brand that encompassed all things that make me, me. I’ve been a competitive athlete pretty much all of my life and just recently competed in Ironman St. George. Exercise and hard work are at the core of my being, and I apply that same work ethic in my professional career.
If you ask Google, Sweat Equity is “an interest or increased value in a property earned from labor toward upkeep or restoration.” Yeah, that’s cool and all, but for me, Sweat Equity means so much more! It’s a lifestyle – put your head down, work your ass off, and get the results you want! I work hard in the gym, and I work even harder for my clients to get exactly what they want and need. And more importantly, I want my clients to have fun, learn, laugh, and find the right property for them and their needs.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I absolutely love the life I’ve created. I go to bed when I want, wake up when I want, I get to spend time with people I love, and I am always in control of my decisions. What I’m trying to say is freedom makes me happy 🙂 Also, FOOD. I really love good food!!
