Community Highlights: Meet Kelsey Crookshanks of The Human Design Astrologer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Crookshanks.

Hi Kelsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small town in West Virginia and didn’t know much outside of where and how I was raised. I had many passions as a kid and throughout my youth, but none of them really stood out more so than the others. I moved a lot during my childhood, always being able to make friends in the new places that we went. I loved learning and being active. I loved to read and write stories. I loved a lot of things… Which made it hard later in life when I was told I would have to choose just one thing, and pursue that as a career. I had no idea that my multi-passionate nature would serve me and that I would end up becoming an entrepreneur. And I definitely had no idea that I would end up creating a business based on Astrology and Human Design.

I’ve always been interested in Astrology since I was in my early teens. I would circle the horoscope section in magazines I liked, not having any idea of where it would lead me. When I went to college, I became really interested in Psychology and Neuroscience. I was deeply intrigued by understanding how people worked and why they did the things they did. I ended up transferring schools and moving to Colorado halfway through my undergraduate degree, and this is when everything changed f0r me. I was introduced again to Astrology in a much deeper way, through a book that described me perfectly, based only on my month and day of birth. I started to share this book with friends and learn more about Astrology. When I learned about natal charts, I became obsessed. I would look up every friend and strangers’ chart and describe to them who they were and why they did the things they did. They were always blown away. Soon enough, people started to come to me for readings, wanting to know more about their chart. The more I learned and shared, the more I wanted to learn and share. Through studying my own chart, I started to realize that this is a big part of my purpose. I was learning what I was capable of, through the guidance my chart was revealing to me. Somewhere along this journey, I learned about Human Design. And, being someone who was naturally interested in all things having to do with human behavior, this system piqued my interest as well. Learning my own Human Design gave me clarity and confirmation around embracing my true self, and for knowing what I’m here to do in this world, my purpose. When I learned that Human Design uses Astrology, well, the rest is history. I started to share this information on social media and grow an audience that wanted to learn more from me. In September of 2020, I created a website to blog about Astrology and share the information with others in a simple and practical way that anyone could understand. In February of 2021, I started to host talks on the Clubhouse app about Astrology and Human Design. I connected with many people that helped me to learn more about the two modalities and further refine my offerings and online products. In August of 2021, I added Human Design to my website and to the readings I was offering to clients. In September I created an e-book to help people read and understand their charts on their own. Soon after, I rebranded as The Human Design Astrologer and started a podcast to share my knowledge of Astrology and Human Design. This has now extended to other social media platforms like TikTok, where I have been helping and guiding thousands of people to learn their unique design so they can align with their highest potential and life purpose. I created online courses and trainings to help others understand how to use Astrology and Human Design. And now I’m working on helping others to build and grow a business out of it, just like I did.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Summing up the past several years of my life may make it seem like it happened seamlessly and easily… But that could not be farther from the truth. The biggest obstacles I faced were myself, my limiting beliefs, and having that doubt mirrored back to me through others. Shortly after moving to Colorado, I made the tough decision to drop out of college. This was a major turning moment for me. I thought the world was over and wasn’t sure what I would do if it wasn’t the traditional “go to college and get a degree” route. I was really worried that I wouldn’t be able to make it and I would have to work retail minimum wage jobs the rest of my life. I had a lot of student debt from my first two years at university, so it didn’t seem like a viable option to me, and I was scared. It wasn’t until, many years later, when people started to come to me for Astrology and Human Design readings, that I realized I could pursue something outside of college and totally still be successful with it. The years before this realization were probably some of the hardest I have faced. Working jobs, I didn’t really love, just so that I could get by and live a life I wanted to live. I became exhausted, burnt out, and desperate to find another way. I craved freedom, to work less than 40 hours a week, and make more income than minimum wage could have ever allowed me to. Which, ultimately, is what lead me to do what I’m doing now. I knew I wanted to live life on my own terms, and I was determined to find other options. That drive put me in a lot of risky places… on the verge of homelessness, in severe credit card debt, and once again, worried I wouldn’t be able to survive. But I always had the drive, motivation, and ambition. No matter what I was faced with, I was determined to make my passions work for me as a career. I could not go back to the miserable life I had before of working for someone else, on someone else’s schedule. I was not willing to sacrifice my freedom, at any cost. Most of the people around me thought I was crazy and being reckless. I, myself, at times even thought as much. Deep down I knew this was the only way. I knew that if I had gone back to the way life was, I might never leave, for the comfort it provided was too great. So, I forced myself to be uncomfortable. I forced myself to have no other option but to pursue my passions and build a successful business out of it. Sometimes that looked like sleeping in my car and working from the nearest Starbucks. Sometimes it looked like taking temporary jobs I knew I wouldn’t love just so I could have more income flowing in. Sometimes it looked like staying with friends or family. Sometimes it looked like emotional breakdowns on bathroom floors wondering if I really was crazy… But ultimately, it ended up all being worth it. And looking back, I’m glad it went the way it did and that I didn’t give up at any point along the way.

I’ve learned that social media, and technology as a whole, are very useful aspects to a business and spreading one’s message with the world.
