Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Burson.
Hi Kenneth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in Papillion, Nebraska, and for a long time I thought my path would revolve around football. Getting into Creighton changed that completely — it pushed me academically in ways I didn’t expect, especially as someone with ADHD who always had to work twice as hard to keep up. I ended up getting a master’s degree in Clinical Anatomy, and during my surgery rotations, an oral surgeon suggested I look into dentistry. I’d never seriously considered it, but something clicked immediately.
I took the DAT, got myself into dental school, and from day one I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be. After graduating, I moved to Colorado, joined a DSO, and eventually owned multiple offices. That experience taught me what I valued in a practice — culture, connection, and personalized care — and ultimately while I left the DSO, those lessons led me to build the practice I have today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
ike anyone on a long career path, I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs. COVID was easily one of the toughest moments — shutting down the practice except for emergencies and running with a skeleton crew was a test of patience, adaptability, and perspective. Another ongoing challenge has been navigating the modern job market, where turnover is higher and people often jump quickly when things get tough.
What’s helped me is keeping a mindset that not every day is going to be perfect, and that staying adaptable is more important than being flawless. I coach my team on the value of sticking with something long enough to grow from it. Building a consistent, long-term team takes time, but the culture and relationships that come from it make the challenges worth it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Denver Dentists & Implant Center?
My work is built around offering comprehensive, individualized dentistry that meets patients exactly where they are. I was trained in an environment where we learned to do everything, and I’ve kept that philosophy throughout my career. I maintain a very broad skill set so that patients can receive most of their care under one roof, and when something is best handled by a specialist, I’m honest about that too. A big part of my day-to-day work is helping people feel heard — especially those who come in with past trauma, fear, or negative experiences.
I also take pride in educating patients in a way that feels supportive rather than pressured. I’m always upfront that it’s their mouth, their time, and their money, and my job is to diagnose clearly, make thoughtful recommendations, and respect the choices they make. The trust that forms from that approach is the foundation of how I practice. At the end of the day, my goal is to combine strong clinical skills with a comfortable, personal experience that helps people actually look forward to coming back.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I genuinely enjoy most is connecting with patients and getting to understand their fears, goals, and expectations. I love that dentistry gives me the chance to keep learning — I take around 100 hours of continuing education a year simply because I enjoy expanding my skills. I also love seeing the team come together, build trust with each other, and create a positive environment for patients.
On the flip side, I struggle when people underestimate the value of consistency and commitment, whether it’s staff or patients who’ve been conditioned to think dentistry is only about what insurance allows. I dislike anything that takes the focus away from meaningful, honest care. But overall, the good far outweighs the frustrations — the relationships, the growth, and the sense of purpose keep me energized every day.
