Community Highlights: Meet Kristi Tompkins of Revitalize Coaching, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristi Tompkins

Hi Kristi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a child, I fell in love with cooking. Time spent in the kitchen preparing everything from cookies to casseroles was blissful. Throughout several decades, my culinary skills developed and so did my passion for the healing power of food for the body, as well as nourishment for the soul. The kitchen soon became a haven for creativity, contemplation, serenity, and social connection with others.
After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Food Science, I took a brief career detour and worked in the high-tech industry in Silicon Valley in the San Francisco Bay Area. After several years of struggling with my health caused by chronic stress, food allergies, acne and hormone imbalances, combined with being unhappy and unfulfilled in my job, I serendipitously discovered the professional field of Naturopathic Medicine.
Once I realized the depth of education, clinical training, root cause healing approach and the profound impact I could have on supporting others’ healing, I was all in! A year later, I moved up to the Pacific Northwest to pursue a doctorate program in Naturopathic Medicine.
It was an intensive and highly demanding 4 year program, yet fulfilling on so many levels. I worked several part-time jobs while attending this full-time program. The gorgeous environment of the Pacific Northwest hiking trails, mountains, lakes and Puget Sound became a replenishing escape or retreat in ways that balanced my physical and mental health. The friendships I developed along that journey were immensely nourishing and exactly what I needed to endure that program and thrive. Reflecting on that time in my life, I am incredibly proud of my determination, focus, and perseverance in completing that program and becoming a more empowered, resilient and wiser woman.
After graduation and passing board exams, I worked for a integrative medical clinic for several years, where I learned from a brilliant team of doctors about functional lab testing, bio-identical hormone prescribing for women and men, addressing perimenopause and menopause, anti-aging protocols, and how to formulate individualized treatment plans focused on long-term healing and prevention. The time in clinical practice allowed me to refine my skills as a doctor and learn more about patient care.
After a decade in the Northwest and missing the warmth and comfort of my native home, I returned to Northern California to start a practice in the greater Sacramento region. This was an exciting yet challenging time for my business. I was overcome with a mix of happiness and fear of the unknown.
Now, practicing as a solo entrepreneur without a supportive team care clinic, there was a sense of urgency to build this new practice and start making a profit. I frequently gave free monthly presentations, joined several chambers of commerce and networked in the local community as often as possible.
A few years later, I moved my office to a new location, continued my local marketing efforts and my business continued to grow.
Then, the 2020 Pandemic swept across this planet and everything changed for all of us – personally and professionally. I moved my practice to a home office and began the unfamiliar path of establishing a virtual telehealth practice.
Loving the convenience, efficiency and ease of this type of practice, over time, I realized the disadvantages of running a completely virtual practice. Missing and craving the in-person human connection, I decided to create a hybrid practice, working in an office part-time while also seeing clients virtually from home or anywhere in the world. The choice to enjoy the best of both options was a wise decision for my business, as well as for my social and emotional health.
In the summer of 2021, I visited Colorado to attend a Dr. Joe Dispenza meditation retreat, and not only did I develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for the transformative, healing and science-based power of the mind-body connection, I also fell in love with the incredible culture, the welcoming community and the scenic, adventurous life of Colorado. After visiting a few more times, I packed up my life and moved to Colorado in the spring of 2022.
Today, I continue to run a hybrid practice, consulting with clients virtually throughout California and Colorado. Additionally, I see clients locally at Naturemed Integrative Medicine in Boulder, Colorado.
Now that I’ve been in practice for nearly 18 years, helping women, men, teens and children with an assortment of medical conditions, my focus is on women’s health and vitality with a special niche of supporting women in Perimenopause and Menopause. Over the last several years, my practice has evolved to integrate a blend of Functional Medicine, Mind-Body Medicine, and Professional Mindset Coaching for a deeper level of transformative healing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Is there such a thing as a smooth road in life and business? Completing a 4-year post-graduate Naturopathic Medical Program and choosing to become a doctor and entrepreneur has certainly come with challenges. The enduring sacrifices, fierce determination and relentless ambition required for that life path are not for the faint of heart. The key has been in reminding myself that this calling and life purpose is a gift to serve, educate, guide, encourage and empower people to up-level and become a better version of themselves in all ways – physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
After moving back to California to start my own practice, despite having family and friends nearby to encourage me, I discovered that working as an entrepreneur can sometimes get lonely. It’s a path that requires an extraordinary amount of self-initiative, self-leadership and self-discipline. While a certain level of independence is needed, expected, and even celebrated, I’ve learned that the key to being a successful, prosperous and fulfilled entrepreneur is rooted in interdependence – leaning on the support and expertise of other entrepreneurs and business professionals in your local and global community.
Delegation and collaboration are essential. I’ll admit that it’s been challenging for me to delegate. At the start of my business, I had to wear many hats and do it all myself.
There are aspects of my business where I’m exceptional – like building and sustaining connections with my clients, creating individualized treatment protocols, writing, speaking, professional networking and continually developing new programs to expand my business.
Whereas other tasks I am terrible at – like accounting, QuickBooks reconciliation, doing my taxes, keeping up with the latest social media trends, and coming up with innovative ways to market and promote my business.
Choosing to delegate and collaborate with other professionals who are far more experienced and extraordinary in their line of work continues to be crucial for sustaining my business. This has freed up more time and energy, allowing me to focus on the things I am good at – my zone of genius – so my business can flourish.
A few years ago, I realized that I needed to change the way I ran my business. The passion for my profession that I once had was dwindling and I was caught in a repetitive cycle that wasn’t allowing me and my business to grow. In other words, I wanted to scale my business in a way that resulted in more success, fulfillment, abundance and freedom without leading to further overwhelm and exhaustion.
A year before the 2020 Pandemic, I started investing my time, attention and resources into professional mastermind coaching programs led by business coaches who were experienced in helping integrative health care practitioners like myself to scale their business. Throughout multiple mastermind programs over the years, I learned how to create 1:1 signature programs that provided a substantial win-win advantage for not only my clients but also for my business. I studied the science and importance of implementing a daily mindset practice as it pertains to being an entrepreneur and running a functional medicine business. I consistently stepped outside of my comfort zone to better understand the art and refinement of sales and social media marketing (an ongoing process) and so much more. The most impactful and meaningful reward of these mastermind programs is the woman I’ve become because of these collective, life-changing experiences. When I change for the better, it sparks a ripple effect, inspiring even greater change in those around me – both near and far.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Over the last 20 years, my practice has evolved from helping children, teens, women, men and seniors to focusing mainly on women’s health and vitality.
My special niche is helping women in Perimenopause and Menopause, which ranges from ages 35 to 55 for most women. My business has transformed into a truly holistic practice of educating, supporting and inspiring women – physically, emotionally, and spiritually – to become a better version of themselves.
During the Perimenopause and Menopause years, women experience not only an incredible amount of hormonal and physical changes but also psychological and emotional changes that take women by surprise. It is common for women to feel confused, alone and frustrated with what’s happening in their bodies.
Coincidentally, significant personal and professional life transitions are occurring during this time as well. Children leaving home or not needing their parents as much, caring for aging parents, career changes, shifting relationships, re-evaluating old identities and roles and so much more. It can be a time of uncertainty, unpredictability and stress for many women.
This mid-life “bridge” for women is a sacred opportunity for developing deeper self-awareness, greater resiliency in the face of adversity, and enriched wisdom to release what no longer feels supportive and welcome in that which resonates.
Rather than feeling frustration and annoyance at these health and life changes, women can reframe this period as a new possibility for rediscovery and reinvention to create a healthier, more empowered life with joy, purpose, freedom and meaning.
Over the last several years, I have been studying the transformative power of mind-body medicine, the neuroscience behind thought and behavior change, and the strategies around professional coaching.
I am an active member of Dr. Joe Dispenza’s “Inner Health Coalition,” an organization designed to help healthcare practitioners implement the teachings of meditation, behavior change, and transformation with their patients. This science-based and physician-led program empowers practitioners to inspire their patients to practice physical and emotional self-regulation, change their lives and create a global shift in healthcare.
In addition to Functional Medicine, I have found that implementing mind-body medicine, mindset coaching and other universal therapies offers unlimited possibilities for more profound healing.
With a virtual telehealth practice serving clients throughout Colorado and California, my clients receive a thorough evaluation of their symptoms, past medical and family history, lifestyle habits, supplements, medications, work environment, life stressors, and more. Each client also receives comprehensive functional lab testing, bio-identical hormones if needed, and ongoing personalized treatment protocols that safely and effectively address the root cause(s) of illness and treat the whole person.
Locally, I see clients in person at Naturemed Integrative Medicine Clinic in Boulder, Colorado. With a stellar team of experienced Naturopathic Doctors, a Medical Doctor, and a crew of supportive and caring staff members, Naturemed specializes in evidence-based functional and naturopathic medicine, intravenous therapies, naturopathic oncology, Lyme disease, GI disorders, advanced cardiology, athletic performance, anti-aging medicine, women’s health, bio-identical hormones and more.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Regarding my professional field, I highly recommend working with a Naturopathic or Functional Medicine Doctor who focuses on a special niche (i.e. Perimenopause, Fertility, Lyme disease, etc) that you are most interested in. This will allow you the best opportunity to ask pertinent questions and learn from a seasoned practitioner about what has worked well for their practice, as well as how they learned from their mistakes. I was fortunate in that I was able to work with a team of doctors at a clinic up in the Pacific Northwest that focused on women’s and men’s health, anti-aging medicine, functional lab testing, bio-identical hormones, therapeutic nutrition and so much more. That foundational mentorship experience has helped me tremendously throughout my professional career.
I definitely recommend taking advantage of engaging with local networking organizations in person, as well as connecting with online networking organizations throughout the world. You’ll glean enormous benefit from both avenues and in different ways. We all need people – especially in business – and leaning on the support and expertise of others is essential. Community is the best medicine. As the saying goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
