Community Highlights: Meet Leslie Henny of Revive & Thrive Strength & Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Henny.

Hi Leslie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I was a very active and competitive child. I participated in several different sports but developed a passion for the game of soccer and excelled very quickly as a player. My childhood dream of playing college soccer came true when I received a scholarship to play at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. Being a student- athlete taught me incredible time-management skills and helped me develop the confidence to be a team leader both on and off the field. As a student in the exercise science program, I developed a deeper understanding and passion for how the human body works and how exercise and movement can be a catalyst for over health and well-being. Throughout my studies, I wasn’t sure exactly what career path I wanted to pursue, but what I did know was that I wanted to help people in some capacity through exercise and movement. Upon graduating, I worked in a commercial gym setting and sports performance facility where I gained experience working with the general population and middle and high school athletes. It was at this time I decided I wanted to expand my expertise in the Exercise Science field and started graduate school. Upon graduating with a masters in Exercise Science in 2018, I was given an incredible opportunity to work with the University of Akron’s Women’s Soccer Program as their Strength & Conditioning Coach. My focus coming into this program was to improve the overall strength and fitness amongst the team with just as much focus on the injury prevention side of things. During my time at Akron, the team significantly improved in all areas of fitness while also experiencing minimal injuries.
In 2020, I decided I wanted a change of scenery and decided to make the move to Colorado. In my first two years in Colorado, I worked as a Personal Trainer and Sports Performance Coach in a few different facilities before taking the leap and starting my own business, Revive & Thrive Strength & Fitness.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The path to starting my own business certainly hasn’t been the easiest, but I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. I have learned so much about myself and continue to learn more about myself every day as I navigate being an entrepreneur. I am also starting to see a clearer vision for the future of my business and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come. I am so incredibly grateful for the community of clients I have built and the connections I have built with each and every client. They believe in me and my vision and I wouldn’t be where I am today, without their support and encouragement.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Revive & Thrive Strength & Fitness provides 1 on 1 and Small Group Strength Training to clients of all ages and fitness levels. Some of the areas I prioritize with my clients include improving mobility, building optimal strength, and preventing injury. Based on the feedback I’ve received from clients, I would say what sets me apart from other coaches is my ability to connect with my clients and provide a safe space for them to learn and feel supported while doing so. I also have quite an extensive educational background and 10 years of experience in the field. I am constantly learning and evolving as a coach so I better serve my clients. Ultimately what I want most for my clients is to empower them to feel their absolute best in their bodies.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
There are so many new trends emerging in the health and fitness field right now. I can certainly see how overwhelming this can be, especially for someone just starting their fitness journey. Instead of being consumed by all this new information, I think it’s important to figure out what works best for you and your goals. What works for one person, does not work for everyone. Be careful with what information you’re consuming and find a coach with the expertise and knowledge who can put together the right plan tailored to fit your goals and needs.
