Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Grove.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started in photography back in 2009, right out of college. I was actually hired because I didn’t have experience, they wanted to train me from the ground up. I had no idea then that I’d end up falling completely in love with photography.
For the first several years, I worked for different corporate studios and eventually in school photography, the land of forced smiles and awkward yearbook poses. Those experiences taught me so much about lighting, patience, and working quickly with all kinds of personalities.
After my second son was born, I decided to start my own photography business, photographing a little bit of everything. Once my third son arrived, I realized that newborn photography was my absolute favorite.
My first studio was actually the smallest bedroom in our house, squeezed between baby gear and laundry piles. As my business grew (and as I realized I didn’t want clients walking past my kitchen sink full of dishes), I took the leap and opened my first studio space. I spent a year in Fort Collins, a year in Loveland, and now I’m in Windsor. I am currently in my fifth year of running a professional studio dedicated entirely to newborn photography.
It’s been a journey full of adorable babies, wonderful families, and so much learning along the way. I’m incredibly grateful to still be doing what I love after all these years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I first started my business, I was a mom with little kids at home, trying to build something from scratch while learning everything as I went. There were a lot of long nights, trial and error, and moments of doubt. It took time to figure out how to run the business side of things, not just take pretty photos.
There were also the challenges that come with raising a family while growing a business. Balancing everything hasn’t always been easy, but it’s also what’s made this journey so meaningful. Every step has taught me something, and I honestly wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I photograph only newborns. It’s truly my passion and what I’ve dedicated my business to completely. Over the years, I’ve gone through specialized training focused just on newborn posing, lighting, and safety, so posing and photographing babies has become second nature to me.
My studio is designed entirely for newborns. Every blanket, wrap, and setup is chosen with their comfort and safety in mind. I think that’s what makes my work a little different. Many photographers divide their time between families, weddings, and other sessions, but I’ve found so much joy in focusing on newborns. There’s something really special about capturing those first tiny details and giving families memories that will last forever.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wouldn’t say luck has had much to do with my journey. It’s really been about consistency and dedication. I’ve spent years doing the same things over and over, refining my skills and learning something new with every photo session.
Running a creative business isn’t always easy, but consistency and dedication have carried me through. I think that’s what’s kept me going when so many others have moved on to other careers. It’s not luck. It’s showing up, learning, and staying committed to what I love.
