Community Highlights: Meet Monica Ramunda of Rocky Mountain Counseling Services and Sacred Healing Journeys

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Ramunda

Monica, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been in the mental health field for over 30 years and have had my own private practice for the past 24 years in Louisville, Colorado. My passion has always been helping others navigate life’s challenges and transformations. Before starting my private practice, I spent time in Central and South America as a tour guide, which deeply influenced the work I do today.

As a guide, I had the privilege of leading tours through Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, taking people to sacred sites like the Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, the Amazon rainforest, Lake Titicaca, and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Along the way, I was introduced to the beautiful traditions and ceremonies of the indigenous peoples of Peru. Their deep connection to the land, their rituals, and their time-honored ways left a lasting impression on me. My love for Peru and the Quechua people is something that still inspires me today, and it’s a thread that has woven itself into my retreats.

Over the years, I’ve blended this love of travel, native traditions, and my therapeutic background into what I do now with Wellness and Wisdom Journeys. My retreats bring together the transformational power of psychedelics with a safe, supportive environment for personal growth. It’s an incredible feeling to help people experience insights and breakthroughs that can truly change their lives.

Personally, my own journey into midlife has been a renaissance of sorts. As my children transitioned into adulthood, I found new meaning and joy in this phase of life. I draw inspiration from nature, animals, and travel—and even from figures like Grandma Moses, who began her incredible art career at age 78. Her story reminds me that it’s never too late to embrace new passions and possibilities.

With my training as one of the first Certified Psychedelic-Assisted Therapists in the U.S. and my lifelong commitment to learning, I hope to inspire women in their 40s and beyond to discover their own happiness and purpose. Through my retreats, I feel honored to create spaces where others can connect with their inner wisdom, find healing, and embrace transformation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but that’s part of what makes the journey so meaningful. Being a pioneer in the field of psychedelic-assisted therapy and retreats means there isn’t always a clear blueprint to follow. I’ve had to pave my own way, figure things out as I go, and embrace a lot of improvisation. But that’s also where the magic happens—being able to adapt, innovate, and create something unique.

As a self-starter and entrepreneur, I’ve always loved the challenge of building something from the ground up. It’s not without its struggles, though. Navigating uncharted territory can feel overwhelming at times, especially when it involves balancing the regulatory landscape, ensuring participant safety, and creating experiences that are both transformative and deeply meaningful. But those challenges have also been incredible opportunities for growth.

What’s kept me grounded is collaborating with other skilled and passionate professionals along the way. I’ve been fortunate to work with amazing people who share my vision and bring their own expertise to the table. Together, we’ve been able to create retreats and therapeutic experiences that are truly life-changing for participants.

At the end of the day, I love what I do. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the impact of this work on others’ lives and to know that I’m helping to open doors to healing and transformation. While the road may not always be smooth, I wouldn’t trade it for anything—it’s been a journey full of learning, connection, and fulfillment.

As you know, we’re big fans of Rocky Mountain Counseling Services and Sacred Healing Journeys. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Rocky Mountain Counseling Services and Sacred Healing Journeys, I focus on supporting women through every stage of life. I specialize in women’s issues and life transitions, offering therapeutic services such as ketamine-assisted therapy and psychedelic-assisted therapy. With over 30 years of experience in the mental health field and 24 years in private practice, I bring a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and warmth to my work.

What makes my approach unique is the combination of professional expertise and a deeply personal, tailored experience. I’ve had the privilege of working with women across generations—from teens navigating the challenges of adolescence, to mothers balancing the complexities of parenting, to women redefining themselves during significant life transitions like divorce, empty-nesting, or retirement. My goal is to create a space where every woman feels seen, understood, and supported as she steps into her next chapter.

One of the aspects I’m most proud of is integrating innovative therapeutic approaches like ketamine-assisted therapy and psychedelic-assisted therapy. These modalities, paired with traditional talk therapy, provide powerful tools for healing and self-discovery. Through Wellness and Wisdom Journeys, I also offer transformational retreats where women can deepen their connection to themselves and their inner wisdom in nurturing, beautiful settings.

Being part of the Louisville and Boulder communities has been such a meaningful part of my journey. Over the years, I’ve witnessed the incredible power of connection and trust in helping women heal and thrive. It’s an honor to support women as they navigate life’s transitions, heal old wounds, or rediscover a sense of purpose and joy.

At the heart of everything I do is a passion for helping women live fully, authentically, and with renewed hope.

What are your plans for the future?
At Wellness and Wisdom Journeys, I’m excited about the future and the opportunities to expand our work internationally. We’re planning to offer an even wider variety of retreats tailored to women at all stages of life, creating spaces for transformation, healing, and connection.

With the upcoming DORA regulations for becoming a licensed Clinical Natural Medicine Facilitator, I know there will be some changes to how we operate. While change can be challenging, I feel confident and well-supported in navigating these shifts. My priority is to ensure that we comply with the new regulations while continuing to provide the safe, ethical, and impactful experiences that our participants have come to expect.

I’m looking forward to growing our reach, working with more women worldwide, and continuing to innovate in how we support healing and personal growth. It’s an exciting time, and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead!
