Community Highlights: Meet Nicole Bushhouse of Unruffled Travel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Bushhouse.

Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been a traveler for my whole life and ramped up my international traveling over the last decade or so to more off-the-beaten-path destinations like Cambodia, Mozambique, and Peru. I found that while I love the excitement and novelty of traveling, I also have a lot of anxiety and hyper-vigilance surrounding the experience of travel.

Over the last few years I, like many, have been on a journey of self-diagnosis, research, and discovery about neurodivergence. The common stereotypes of Autism and ADHD have left many of us undiagnosed and confused about why we grew up feeling different or struggled in areas that seemed simple to most of our friends and family. After decades of trying to conform to a neurotypical world, I’m working to unmask and allow my true self to be exposed to others. It is hard work rewiring your neural pathways!

I started Unruffled Travel as a way to spend more time on my particular special interest in travel and exploration to share my intuitive coping strategies for traveling in a neurotypical world, and help people who may struggle with traveling have better access and experiences. I believe travel is an important way to connect with the earth and our fellow human beings as well as ourselves and we all deserve a safe space to do that.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m at the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey and I’ve been fortunate to have coaches and a community of like-minded entrepreneurs who are building their businesses with integrity, transparency, and in support of each other.

One of the things I like most about being a business owner is that I’m constantly learning and part of that learning is failing fast and adapting quickly. As I develop, I’m understanding my strengths and where I need support from others. Building community is mutual, there are times when I’m able to use my privilege to amplify and support others, and other times when I seek wisdom and need help from others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

I have traveled on 5 continents and spent significant time studying to become a Certified Destination Specialist for some of my favorite places, including South Africa, Morocco, Amsterdam, Italy & Hawai’i. I save my Clients time and energy because I have access to databases, networks of travel experts, and insider resources.

As part of my bespoke itinerary creation, I include recommendations for media like books, movies, playlists, and podcasts to begin immersing yourself in the place(s) you’ll be traveling to ahead of your adventure. Traveling is an experience you’re spending significant time and money on and I want to help you get the most out. It’s a true luxury experience to have someone consider all the logistical details and allow you to focus on showing up with the energy and intent you want to bring to the experience.
