Hi Pamela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my career as a prosecutor, and that job taught me something I never forgot: when tragedy hits a family without a plan, things can get ugly fast. Kids can end up in the care of people their parents never would have chosen. Families fight in court. And sometimes, a judge who has never met them is left making some of the biggest decisions of their lives.
Watching that happen over and over is what ultimately pushed me to become an estate planning attorney.
But before law, I spent time doing stand up and improv. It turns out, that was surprisingly good training for the courtroom and even better training for figuring out how to talk about trusts, taxes, and money without making people want to fall asleep.
That combination really became the foundation for everything I do today.
I built my firm, Law Mother, because I wanted to do this differently. I wanted to make the law and money feel accessible and human, especially for women who were never handed the playbook for building and protecting their own wealth.
Then, when my son was five days old, I started recording videos at 3 a.m. while breastfeeding him. My goal was simple: post one video a day during maternity leave and explain complicated legal and financial concepts in plain English.
I never imagined those videos would reach much beyond my own community. Instead, they grew into an audience of more than 2.5 million people.
When I look back, there’s a pretty clear throughline to how I got here: a courtroom showed me what can happen when families don’t have a plan. A stage taught me how to make people actually listen. And a newborn gave me the push to start talking about it publicly.
Today, my work is about much more than legal documents. It’s about helping people, especially women and parents, understand their money, build wealth, protect what they’ve created, and leave a legacy that actually lasts.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not smooth at all, if I’m honest. Building a law firm from scratch is hard enough on its own, but I was doing it while also being a new mom during the pandemic, pregnant with no visitors allowed, no in-person help, none of the normal support a new parent leans on. That isolation shaped my first year running the business as much as anything.
Then came the social media side. When those first videos actually started reaching people, it wasn’t just exciting, it was scary too. The first wave of hate comments really got to me. I hadn’t built up any thick skin for that yet, and there’s a real weight that comes with suddenly having an audience and feeling like you have to get everything right for them.
And honestly, the struggle that never fully goes away is the tension between the business and my kids. There are days I’m at work wishing I were home, and days I’m home distracted by something happening at work. I don’t think that tension resolves, you just get better at managing it, giving yourself grace when the balance is off, learning to say no more, and building a team you actually trust so you’re not carrying all of it alone.
