Community Highlights: Meet Priscilla Negreanu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Negreanu.

Hi Priscilla, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi there! I’m Priscilla, a First-generation American, Business Development Enthusiast, CU Denver Alumna, and Former Advertising Sales Executive. Also, I just got back from trekking to Mt. Everest Basecamp, an 80-mile roundtrip through the Everest Region. Happy to share my experience over a cup of coffee with anyone interested in trekking or mountaineering.

I was born in Bucharest, Romania. It was my dad’s life goal to live the “American Dream” and provide our family with the best opportunities. After convincing my mom to apply for a US Visa and over 6 years of patiently waiting for a call from the US Embassy, in 1987, my parents were given the green light to come to the United States. Romania was still a communist country at the time, and this made the journey to the US much more challenging. In fact, my parents were not told where in the US they would call home, until they landed in Denver, CO, where I grew up.

My parents worked tirelessly to guarantee that my sister and I received a good education and a good life. They taught and showed us at a young age that if you work hard, do more than you’re asked, and help people, you can build the life you want.

I went to Catholic School from 1st to 8th grade. It wasn’t the easiest time for me, and I often felt out of place. This is the time when acting started to play a role in my life! As young as I can remember, I was auditioning for commercials, plays, and TV shows. My 1st audition was for a role in an Oscar Myer Weiner commercial. I’m sure you now have the song stuck in your head… I’m sorry about that! The stage is where I felt a part of something bigger than myself. It also gave me the opportunity to connect and work with many different people around the country.

Acting became a big part of my life and continues to be an asset in my career today, as a business developer. It taught me how to connect, empathize, listen, adapt, communicate, and innovate; skills I use every day to build high-value business relationships and strategies.

My passion for acting led me to work for two Fortune 500 companies, including Tribune Media (FOX31/CH2) and Comcast Spotlight, where I sold and managed multi-million-dollar advertising solutions to both local and national accounts in the for-profit and non-profit spaces. In 2017, I founded CONEXIUNE LLC dba YourBiz Developer (Conexiune is the Romanian word for connections) a business-relationship development firm focused on scaling profitable business relationships and business growth strategies to respected companies in the construction and home building industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth roads are boring, excitement comes in the twists and turns of life.

I started going to Studio CLIMBR, over a year ago to start training for my Mt. Everest Basecamp Trek and the 1st class was brutal. I could barely breathe and keep up. After two months of consistently going to classes guess what, it DID NOT get easier. However, I was getting stronger and could push myself to the next level. I started to see results and could feel the confidence in myself growing.

Life does not get easier; you just get stronger.

I don’t know one person who has never struggled with a challenge in their life. No matter our circumstances we all feel pain, hurt, disappointment, betrayal, sadness, you name it. If we focus on the struggle for too long, it becomes a part of our DNA. I believe it’s important we spend time developing self-awareness and continue learning what individual habits will allow us to move past our struggles. Most of our struggles linger with us for a lifetime and it doesn’t have to be this way.

I’ve had great mentors in my life to help guide me, especially when I feel like I’m on the “struggle bus.” Some I personally know, and others are speakers and authors I really look up to like Dr. Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, and Marie Forleo.

Entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker Jim Rohn famously stated, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Finding the right community of people is extremely important to living an overall happy life.

COVID-19 affected all of us: isolation, mental health, layoffs, grieving the loss of loved ones, fill in the blank __________. Now more than ever it’s important we continue to connect with one another, share our experiences, and grow better from them, so we can be empowering examples for the next generation.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
In High School, my history teacher once described me as a dog that won’t give up its bone.

Recently, one of my clients referred to me as a bulldog. I guess some things never change!

I was a bit of a tomboy growing up. When I was young, I liked climbing trees and looking for the next big adventure.

At a young age, that meant finding the next park to play at in the neighborhood. School was a big priority, and I spent a lot of time studying when I wasn’t acting or playing softball and volleyball. Science and History were my favorite subjects. I was really interested in past civilizations, so much so that I thought about becoming an anthropologist and believed I could discover a lost civilization! My trips to Barnes & Noble were fun. I think I bought every book they had on finding Atlantis. Sorry, mom and dad!

A little secret I don’t often share, I was a hip-hop dancer. In high school, a group of friends and I started a hip-hop dance team. When I wasn’t practicing with the team, you could find me in dance battles around town! Our dance team, met some of the best hip-hop dancers at the time, including the dancers from the movie “You Got Served.” I’ll never forget that day.

I was both an extrovert and introvert, an ambivert, and that has not changed much today. I love getting to know people and their stories, and I also like spending time in self-reflection whether at home or hiking a mountain.

When I was younger, I was more emotionally sensitive than most and at that time this was not popular. I didn’t know that this would become one of my greatest assets as an adult, once I learned how to hone my emotions.

At the age of 18 my dad gave me the book “The Secret,” and this became the start of my journey into self-awareness and understanding emotional intelligence – the ability to understand, use and manage our own emotions in a positive way to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, and overcome challenges and defuse conflict – defined by authors, Jeanne Segal, Ph.D. Melinda Smith, M.A., Lawrence Robinson, and Jennifer Shubin.

Today, I continue the journey of self-awareness and understanding the human condition. I’ll wrap it up with a Brian Tracy quote that pretty much sums up why continued education is so important to me.

“Those people who develop the ability to continuously acquire new and better forms of knowledge that they can apply to their work and to their lives will be the movers and shakers in our society for the indefinite future.” – Brian Tracy
