Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Porter.
Hi Rachael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
In August of 2012, I moved to Denver from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with 4 suitcases and a dream of living in Colorado and serving the special needs community.
That dream quickly took root after being hired as a behavioral therapist and later promoted to the executive leadership team at a behavioral health/ PASA organization.
For over 10 years, I have been supporting families with intellectual and developmental differences through developing programs and striving for continuity of care. I started my business over 6 months ago and it’s been successfully growing because of the amazing community members that support me. It motivates me every day to keep working extra hard for this amazing population!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, it was a total adjustment going from constantly being around a team of people to being by myself running a business. It took time for me to adapt to the flow of running a business and not having structured time in an office after 10 years. I found myself lacking confidence at the beginning and questioning myself… can I really do this? Am I good enough?
Imposture syndrome was very real for me but the more clients I worked with the more my confidence grew.
Throughout this journey, I have learned to cherish all the challenges because now I feel proud of all the accomplishments I had made through the difficult moments.
As you know, we’re big fans of Colorado Care Consulting. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is a consulting firm that specializes in supporting organizations through organizational and program development, billing resources, and grant writing.
I specifically work with I/DD (intellectual and developmental disabilities) organizations and/or non-profits because I have a passion for helping neurodivergent individuals. If I can help a business be more efficient and effective through my services, then it can directly correlate to individuals receiving more services so that’s the core of my mission. I am super proud that to date I have submitted 2.5 million dollars worth of grants and have helped numerous clients navigate complex billing issues, develop new programs, and strategically plan organizational structure.
What matters most to you?
My clients absolutely matter the most. I want to hustle every day for them and prove that I can fully support their individualized needs. The neurodivergent community needs all the resources and I feel very strongly that my services can positively impact a business within this industry.
I feel an intense desire to perform at the highest level so I can truly drive change on different levels. I love what I do and the business owners, admin staff, and direct care workers in this field truly deserve the world!
