Community Highlights: Meet Roxanne Romero of Organizd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxanne Romero.

Hi Roxanne, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My journey started roughly one year ago. I was working long hours in Corporate Finance, tight deadlines with three young kids ages 9, 7, and 1 years old. I have always been a relatively tidy person but the long hours were starting to wear on me and I realized that I needed to have systems set in place in order to save time with housework. I started watching shows like Marie Kondo and The Home Edit and started taking bits and pieces and quickly started implementing them into my own life and the results were amazing! Not only did I start to love my home again but because it looked so nice, I was happy to maintain it! I started posting my pictures on social media and the feedback was more than I ever expected! I was quickly receiving multiple offers to get paid to do this work! That was the point that I realized that this was a service that was in high demand! People WANT to be organized but life gets so busy that something it is even hard to find time to slow down enough to do that! I wanted others to feel what I felt and started doing work for my family and friends. The energy I got from helping was incredible and I immediately felt so much passion from not only the work itself but the feedback from the people I was helping!

Flash forward to April 29th, 2021. I got a meeting request from my manager and within 5 minutes she broke the news to me that when planning for Fiscal year budget it was decided that there was yet another round of layoffs. I had survived several rounds but finally, it was my turn. Besides being in shock initially, I remember getting off the phone relieved. Relieved because I did not have to work there anymore. I lost the passion and although I learned so many great and amazing skills my heart was just not there anymore. I thought to myself, “Now is my chance, if there was ever a clearer sign to me that I should do this and go all in, now is my time. ” It’s hard to explain other than there was a voice telling me that I need to explore this. I wanted to see what could happen if I just took a chance on myself and went all it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely has not been a smooth road! Initially, the issue was getting out of the 9-5 mindset going from having an employee mindset. If you don’t get work you don’t get paid period and just keeping the faith and knowing that this is going to work out, I just have to keep moving, keep adapting, and figuring out what works.

Another major issue I have run across was the child care crisis happening due to Covid. I could not find consistent childcare for 2 months of my journey! I remember having projects and having to take my daughter to one person than drive across town to take her to another person for care. I was struggling because my income is dependent on in-person organizing so to not have reliable daycare really took a toll on me. Thankfully, I found one but again the faith thing. I didn’t feel it would ever happen but things always have a funny way of working out.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Organizd is a Professional Organizing company based out of Denver. We organize homes everything from pantries, closets, basements, garages, mudrooms, and any other places that collects clutter. We also service businesses as well. Everything is custom and designed for the client and their needs and their lifestyle. No design is ever the same from one person or business to another. What I am known for and what sets me apart is my design work. To me, this work is not only about organizing but it is also about creating a beautiful space that the client LOVES! My goal is for my clients to walk in their space and get that “ahhhhh” feeling. I think what sets Organized apart is that I genuinely truly care for me clients. I truly see so much about my former self in them, I was so overworked, busy, and stressed. So, to me, my main goal is giving back time because it truly is the most valuable asset we have.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for finding a mentor is finding a person that you admire and literally just starting a conversation. It may initially be uncomfortable if you are not used to it but know that they hold a wealth of knowledge that can be helpful to you. What I have come to realize is that there are so many people out there willing and wanting to help, and when you seek those people cultivate and maintain those relationships. They are vital for business and in growth in general.
