The Marathon Mindset: The Scottie Simpson Story
From the early morning grind to building an independent media empire, the journey of Scottie Simpson isn’t just about radio—it’s a masterclass in resilience, community, and the ultimate “Marathon Mindset.”
Part I: The Hustle and the 5:00 AM Wake-Up Call
Every legacy has a starting line, and for me, that line was drawn at 98.5 Blazin’ FM. When Wake-N-Bake America’s Got Talent held a competition for a coveted intern spot, I put everything on the line, fighting my way all the way to the final round. I didn’t get the official title that day.
But a closed door means nothing to someone who understands the long game.
Instead of walking away, I stayed in the pocket. I kept in constant contact, proved MY reliability, and became the ultimate clutch player. When the station needed a fill-in, I answered the call—even if it meant catching a quick, chaotic nap right before the 5:00 AM showtime. That relentless work ethic couldn’t be ignored. The hustle paid off, the grind turned into gold, and I officially earned his place as the host of the Wake-N-Bake America Show.
Part II: The Wreck, the Gridlock, and Higher Quality News
Just as the momentum was building, life threw the ultimate roadblock. In 2019, a severe car wreck left me with catastrophic injuries. To make a brutal situation worse, the world had just finished it’s shut down shortly after due to COVID-19. Medical systems were strained, and the complex surgeries required to repair his body became nearly impossible to schedule.
Trapped in physical limbo during a global pandemic, I did what true creators do: he channeled the pain into production. He created Higher Quality News, a platform born out of a turbulent era, proving that even when his body was grounded, his voice and his vision couldn’t be silenced.
Part III: The Four-Year Rebuild
The road back was a grueling, four-year test of absolute grit. Between 2019 and the mid-2020s, I went through medical hell and back to put himself back together:
• Two hip surgeries
• A disc replacement in his neck
• Major back surgery
It was a agonizingly slow process of rebuilding from the bone up. But by 2026, the movement was back. It was time to redirect that fierce, uninterrupted energy back into the airwaves.
Part IV: The 7 with Scottie, The AI w\Scottie (available where ever you listen to podcasts)
Fast forward to today. The marathon has reached a massive milestone with the birth of The 7 with Scottie just passing a year old. The podcasts are the cultivation of every early morning, every surgery, and every setback. By stepping away from traditional dial restrictions, I have built a sanctuary of pure creative freedom. With no FCC regulations tying my hands, The podcasts are a game-changer for the local industry—finally allowing local businesses especially dispensaries to properly, authentically market without corporate censorship.
The industry has noticed. Big names are already locked in and on board, recognizing the power of a platform built by a broadcaster who knows the community inside and out.
The Present: Organic, Local, and Unstoppable AI with Scottie dropping AI Told Me 2 Do It his debut album. Truly blurring lines and pushing entertainment for Colorado Springs. The album with major push back locally due to data center protest was released on August 29th. Released from 719 AI Records the 719 AI Collective is a group of characters straight out of my head. I put them together and wrote the songs giving it enough human touch that is allowing it to be distributed to all major streaming platform’s. AI giving an outlet for creative writting has released me from more than a decade long writers block.
Despite the rapid momentum and the star power joining the ranks, I’m not rushing the process. True to the Marathon philosophy, everything is growing organically. It is deeply rooted, fiercely independent, and 100% centered on the culture and people of Southern Colorado.
From a finalist who refused to quit at Blazin’ FM to the mastermind behind the 719’s newest media hub, I hope I’m inspiring showing that you can break the body, but you can’t stop the broadcast. The marathon continues

The 7 with Scottie is a podcast based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado

Helping the community and a catalyst for change. For example we had our official launch July 19th where we raised money for 2 nonprofits
And watching it go to use immediately for one of them. Felt amazing.
